Solo Vardi Concept Design by Dee Bee

Postby Dee Bee » Sat Apr 23, 2011 10:08 am

I have been away for awhile. Occasionally I would stop by the forum and see what was going on. It keeps on growing.

Recently I finished a design concept I call the "Solo Vardi"

Solo - beccause it is designed for one person. This isn't everyone's need or desire. But it might be for a unique individual....
Vardi - because I love the traditional vardo look. They seem so old world and filled with fantasy. But this isn't exactly a vardo, so I used the diminuative vardi (I hope this isn't plural in some laguage...?"

Any way I wanted a galley, day bed / bunk, desk, table, inside bath, closet, storage, floor space, options for heat, and lots of windows, plus something that reminded me of the vardo look a curved roof.

The foot print is 10' x 6.5' feet. I think it qualifies as a tiny trailer, but not a teardrop. I Suspect that it will have to have torson suspension as a through axel will not fit with the sunken floor design.

Thoughts and comments always welcome.

Dee Bee

Easter blessings,

Here are some pictures of what I have come up with so far.

That's quite the full featured design you've got there.

What kind of a chair do you plan on using for the desk?

Where do the wheels go?

Hi Mike,

Trust all is well with you and friends here at the TTTT forum.

Folding chair that can also be used at table.
I think torson suspension might allow the wheel to fit approx under the door.
The Bay Window end faces the tow vehicle

Hi Dee Bee,

Yep, the folding chair will work.

I should have asked you to design my Optimized Winter Warrior. You would have probably figured out a place to put my outside kitchen counter!!!

RE: New Vardi Design

Hi DeeBee,

Interesting TTT design. Maybe using the 'half axle'
torsion suspension would work - if the chassis frame
is designed for using it .

Speaking of designing the frame for it, I came across
this "axleless" suspension for trailers the other day:

http://www.timbren.com/images/home/294- ... e-Less.pdf

It seems quite interesting. I have no idea what they cost though.
It seems tailor-made for a large sized drop floor, and one that can
go right through the middle of the TTT body - a definite possibility
with a custom made TTT frame.

Good luck with refining your design. You've got a really good
basic design to do your tweeks with i think.

Side Note To Mikeschn:

If the kitchen counter on the outside of the OWW doesn't HAVE to
contain any storage or a stove/sink etc., why not do what I saw on
an Aussie Off-Road small Caravan. They had a stainless steel
counter top ["L" shaped to boot] mounted on the exterior side
where they wanted the kitchen area to be and it simply folded up
and was securely stowed on the outside during transit.
Once in camp, they folded it down, wiped it off, and were ready
to set up the kitchen area. A definite K.I.S.S. solution.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

you know, I could see that built as a collapsing tiny travel trailer (like a Hi-Lo or TrailManor)
on the frame out from under a popup, with the sunken floor relocated to the end opposite the trailer tongue...

I like it! I might be coming into a new tow vehicle next year. My parents are decideing on dropping to 1 vehicle since they arent useing the minivan much anymore and asked if I wanted it. a 1997 dodge grand caravan with 76k miles can tow 3800 lbs lol. I wouldnt want something too heavy but this is a nice size for 1 or 2 ppl.

So when do ya start the build?

Hi, Dee Bee,

It's good to "hear" from you and know that you haven't fallen off the face of the earth. Before, when you were here, you gave the forum members so much with your last trailer (The Zepher?) that I am certain they are in for another treat!

Your new build looks delightful and has some of everything that you might think you would need. That said, even though you plan to use it alone, you never know what the future holds, either for you or for a potential buyer. Therefore, I would build the 'day bed' in such a way that it can be made into a full-sized bed for two. Since you plan to make your new trailer 6 ft wide, that shouldn't be too difficult. Maybe you could leave the one side stationary and allow the remaining 48 inches or so to pull down or out when the table isn't in use. (It's not going to be a big deal if the bed is in front of the doorway while you're sleeping and you have room for a porta-potty for middle-of-the-night trips.) Alternatively, maybe there's a way to make a pull-down bunk above one of the sides or....?

 ...Just my two cents.... :D

Looks great! Also some ideas for those of us using 6x10 cargo trailers.
