Dog trailer for motorcycle

Postby kevbo1980 » Tue May 29, 2012 9:34 pm

So my intent is to build a trailer to tow behind my Harley. The trailer will offer a little storage for my things as well, however the main purpose will be to haul my 2 medium sized dogs around. I have only started with this idea and nothing is written in stone yet. I have included a rough picture. The more I think about it I will only have a lid on my storage area, the dogs will not have a lid and they will get in and out from the door on the back. I am looking for design input from you out there. Bounce some ideas off me please. Also would it look cool if it was in the shape of and looked like a miniature sized horse trailer?

I'd be inspired by the shape of the tank on your Harley! Hmmmmmmmmmm ............ a teardrop!!

Remember lots of ventilation for your dogs too. ;)

I've thought about this idea about 600 times the past year.
Here's a website I found that gave me some ideas but these are incredibly overpriced...

As for ventilation, I'd install a small solar panel to run a mini fan. (imagine a Fantastic Fan but smaller)

Good luck with the build!

You could have one of them ride shotgun, that's what my silly pup does:

Whatever you decide, remember to add plenty of ventilation and a bit of weather protection, so the your pet doesn't get too hot and the bedding doesn't get wet. Also, build it so that the pooch can't jump out unless you want him to; and, build it big enough so that the pet(s) can stand up and turn around.

A miniature horse trailer would be really cute; but, if you could make the trailer so that the sides unlatch and fold down, you could attach or drape canvas over top and all of you could sleep in it, too. A 3' wide and 4' long floor with 3' foot high walls could fold down to make a 4x9 foot bed platform when you get to your destination. :thinking: ...That's just a rough idea to play with....

where reality runs a razor thin seam between fact and possibility;

Anywhere I roam where I lay my head is home....
