Plan J or K or something...

Sigh - Guess I spoke too soon - DH & I had agreed to build a foamie, but now we're considering our options again...

Building something is still an option, but we're also looking at buying and refurbishing a small fiberglass shell - and we're seriously considering the Teal Tailfeather. From some of what I've seen in previous threads, some of you will think we're crazy, but I really like what this company is doing & in many ways it might be a great fit for us - the shell is lightweight, modular (collapsible, customizable) and, while it's certainly more expensive than building from scratch, the price compares favorably with buying a small fiberglass trailer - and , for us, it's local. We can put in what we need and wouldn't have pull out stuff we don't.

Of course, one of the drawbacks is that it looks like this:

I've been trying to think of ways to "beautify" it. I'm not sure about the Tardis idea for this. Painting it blue might make it look like a giant port-a-potty (The Turdis?)

The company's FB page recently posted this idea for feedback:

Definitely better. We'll see what happens.

Happy Trails,
Andrea

The one piece of advice I can give is to go with what makes you feel good. Because it is outside the regular trend is no reason not to go for it. If we were all the same, imagine how boring that would be?

Thanks - I went over to the Fiberglass RV forum to ask a couple of questions, since one of the options we're talking about is renovating or modifying a fiberglass shell. Some folks have very helpful, but some are basically saying I have to buy a new tow vehicle or I'm SOL. :(

I mentioned the Tailfeather & a lot of the response I'm getting over there is how much they suck, though no one has actually seen one, much less tried to use one. Frankly, beyond advice about what to look for & beware of, "they suck" from someone with no direct experience is less than useful. What little I've been able to glean from actual users of the campers and the temporary shelters Teal makes has been fairly positive, but there is very little and it's hard to find. It IS a lot of $ to lay out on something relatively untested. Since we're close to the production facility, we should be able to at least look at one first hand. I'm going to try to arrange that for sometime after the New Year.

They're in love with their Fiberglass Eggs - and who can blame them? They're classic elegant & beautiful, as are the classic teardrops, but y'all are friendlier to solving problems & thinking outside the box, I think. Probably because so many over here are building unusual solutions to your own situations. :D

Thanks,
Andrea

the one being towed looks like a submersible. The design in cool! I wouldn't want a pop up in the center if that is what that does. I like my shells sealed and hard. See if they'll let you rent one for the weekend, since you are so close.
