Grashopperish? tiny camper... build 1.

Postby bsekisser » Tue Oct 18, 2016 2:41 pm

Tiny camper I am working on... started around April or May?

4x8 Norther Tool, Ironman trailer... mostly built as specified... 1100Lbs capacity?
3/4 ply on trailer deck, coated with fibered roof coat.

4x8 by 4 foot tall box.
3/8 ply on front
1/4 ply on sides
2x3s around doors and jambs, roof supports, floor members, etc.
2x4s top and bottom plates, front and rear cross member.
2x2s front and rear framing, etc.
3/4 ply for rear hatch ribs... 2x2s or 1x2s ? to fill in between ? don't rmember at the moment... i'll figure it out as I get there.
5mm ply interior.
something like 1/4 or 1/2 ply between cabin and galley.
2 3/4" panels xps foam for 1" 1/2 insulation.
PMF, painted canvas exterior...
10Oz canvas, Titebond II.

Reluctant to put in a roof hatch type vent just yet... currently going with a pair of large computer fans.
Primary will be on battery power... plan to have and use shore power, mostly to keep the battery topped up.

It's a nothing special camper... original thoughts were a standie... quickly found that not such a good idea for such a small camper... my first build, so, keeping it small, simple and preferably light... function first. limited budget... not the best tow vehicle... 99 chevy s10... the best part... 4cyl... no guts whatsoever!.. gets the job done, but takes it's sweet old time... getting on the highway in heavy traffic... floor it and pray!

Been working out of state and living in motels... last year had to run from bedbugs... where I am staying now, and anywhere else is exceeding income with the difference paid out of pocket from savings. so, decided I needed another option... In the end, still not sure how things will end up... looks like and apartment would be the cheapest option here... and living in such a small camper is not the most entertaining notion. however, also looking at it from the ability to pack up and go... where I am at is not where I think I would like to be.

I do my primary posting to my facebook page... tried moving to a photobucket account but wasn't working. just seems to hang forever... so for now, I'll just link to the albums as posted. Links below start at most recent... going back to about May... recent albums cover the entire weekend work session while earlier albums just covered the day work session. averaging about four to a dozen or more pics each.

On average, I get one and sometimes two days a week to work on it... rarely more than that... the past weekend and this weekend I have not and likely will not get much done as I have been visiting the state fair to see the livestock shows... primarily dairy and cattle. a few other weekends have also just been so busy that I had not gotten much time to work on it.

If not obvious... already have plans for the next camper... a 5x8 standie... a lot has to happen before that can happen though.

Okay... that was a lot... have fun... hope to get back to it soon and with more updates... questions and comments welcome.

Hello Michael!

Great job on your build! I like the clean look of the exterior. Have you got the doors in yet?
