Just a few photos of how we're looking after this weekend's activities...Most of the metalwork is trimmed .... The wood's been treated in the cabin and the exterior...The frames for the hatches have been made up...Hoping to get the doors and windows sorted next weekend....

You certainly build distinctive trailers, and, all of them very nice!

You do know that the point of a bus is that you don't need a trailer?

  We have used the bus for one camping trip without the trailer and it was OK for one night. I really love camping with the teardrop...and using the bus as a day van...I love the fact the bed is always made up in the trailer ...the food smells stay outside.

The bus still gets a lot of use and we still love it to bits..We're hoping the pickup will have a bit more grunt and be happy dragging the trailer about. :D :D

I do know. I pulled a Puck for 6 years. Had my own two-room suite. For me, the bed was always made up in the bus.

I guess our needs and wants are all different ...
Back when I was first thinking of building our first trailer I was telling my father-in law how I was going to build a teardrop trailer to do a tour of Scotland as I didn't really want to drag our regular caravan around on a trip like that...His reply was " It would be better to get Bed and Breakfast at various places around the route ...and save a lot of time and money building something." Well if I'd followed his advise the trip would have been over in two weeks and that would have been an end to it...
I had no idea at the time I would go on and build several more trailers and meet all the great people we have done over the last eight years or so.... And the trip of building teardrops still continues with different vehicles and different trailers.

If I followed my father in laws advise then we wouldn't have built our fist Grumman....that's now owned by my brother's neighbor.

Image

That led me to build my daughters Coppertop.....

Image

Then our current Grumman

Image

Then came Wanda, to help fund the camper... Now owned by a good friend and campsite owner.

Image

Then came Mambo which is my brothers trailer now.

Image

Then came my brother in laws Grumman....That we built together.

Image

It may well have been cheaper to get a B and B for that first trip... But I think we've gone the better way.. and long may it continue
I'm ever grateful to everyone on this site who's inspired me to build ....and if I've inspired anyone on the way then that's fantastic too !

I still get a great kick out of creating something different and really enjoy the build process as much this time as I have on every build.

Wow, you have built most of those trailers as I have been building mine. I still have not finished. You will probably complete two more before I finish one.

Keep up the good work.

It looks that way Dan... I know I'm lucky the we've had more free time to get on with them. Our kids have grown up and are not needing our time as they did when they were younger. Combined with the fact I work a 4 day week means we have more 'US' time... Rosie has helped with most of the builds and we enjoy doing stuff together ...... Most of our summer weekend are spent away in the teardrops....and most of our winter weekends are spent in the workshop

We've managed to get a bit more done today and now have one of the windows fitted in the door ...and the door's been fitted too.. The second door should get done tomorrow. We've used copper trays to make the porthole windows, and copper foil to edge the doors and frames ....

One copper tray with the base removed ...

Image

Still need to fit the copper rain guard and threshold ....

We've been working on the back end a little recently....Getting the hatch done and starting to work out the galley layout....

We stripped a large copper water cylinder and had enough copper to do the hatch in one sheet... And added a little aluminium over the top of the edges to keep the lines flowing ...
Image

Image

Image

We've used old caravan window hinge for the hatch... covered with rubber pond liner .... and trimmed with brass that was salvaged from on old fire surround

Image

We've tiled the back of the galley with some reclaimed tiles... Fitted the hatch stays ... and fitted a drawer for the gas oven. The drawer /shelf unit was a great find at a car boot sale a couple of years ago...

Image

The cooker is a standard old caravan flavel oven that was a mushroom colour... We've painted it black with stove paint . Changed the handle to a bit of copper pipe...and fitted a thermometer to the front so we can see how hot it is ....
Image

Should be back on it at the weekend :D
