So after Photobucket decided to stop sharing without paying 400 a year, I am trying Flickr now. I will try to go back and update some of the more important posts but it will take time.

So where were we?

As of last week:

ImageUntitled by MIke Burkeen, on Flickr

Laid the joined roof sections in place

ImageUntitled by MIke Burkeen, on Flickr

Set in a bed of PL Premium and then strapled in place with narrow crwon staples

ImageUntitled by MIke Burkeen, on Flickr

Milled up some 4/4 Poplar, cut notches for wiring and glued in place

ImageUntitled by MIke Burkeen, on Flickr

Added a shelf a few weeks ago with a Birch front edge, pulled it out and added a mahogany edge and also added a mahogany trim piece around the ceiling on the inside to hide some ugly saw jigsaw work (not glued yet in this pic)

Sorry for the hiccup and lost pics of the first 2 months of the build, I will try to recover some of them and repost because a post without pics is just a bunch of words

I knew the left fender was leaning somewhat when I picked the trailer up but really didn't think it would be a problem that is until I got the sides on and it left me with no gap to install the aluminum skin. I had a neighbor bring over his plasma cutter and we cut a small slot in the trailer angle iron brace then repositioned the fender and welded it. One less thing to worry about down the road.

Started the wiring and got most of it in and tested through the switches. Will put the PD4045 in place this week and get everything all tidied up.

Making Progress.

Aaaaand We have POWER !!! I ran the AC for 4 hours yesterday and no problems. It cooled the inside to 72 degrees from my 90 degree garage with no doors and big hole in the roof for the not installed yet, fan.

Nice work man. Im kind of jealous because I had to go cheap (no ability to plug into shore power except charger) and easy. That looks great!

Thanks Tigris for the kind words. I had converted a cargo trailer into a toy hauler and used the PD4045 in the past and it really simplifies the electrical install. Not the cheapest by any means but it does work well and is a "one stop shop" for the electrical.

Spent yesterday covered in blue sawdust and got the insulation in the roof done. First layer shown here. I was so covered in blue dust after the second layer, I didn't snap a pic.

On to the roof plywood now. Making progress.

Nice.

Ive come to realize if your going to have full shore power abilities that those are the way to go.

I went a budget route. Small charger and a shore power input that will go to a GFI. Only to run the charger and the window AC when needed. I have fuses inline for the 12v system.

Pretty simple, but at least for now it works. Since our power requirements are small (fan in the vent, led light inside and porch, USB charger) i figure this should be good enough.

Like seeing how this is turning out. I understand the foam mess thing way too well. Found that using my jig saw kept the chunks bigger so at least easier to get off me.

I am curious, why didnt you use foam thick enough to go all the way to the roof skin?

Tigris. Sometimes simple is best. Sounds like you have a good plan based on your needs.

The PD4045 is really overkill for most any trailer of this size but I really like the way it makes electrical installs pretty easy and the built in battery charger is very handy as well.

The ceiling is 1 1/2 inch thick and they don't sell Styrofoam that thick in the big box store around here. Another reason to go with 2 layers of 3/4 is that bending is a bit easier. Well once you cut a series of kerfs in the backside that is.

Made some real progress this weekend. Sanded the insulation high spots, then put the roof skin on.

Yesterday spent some time on the "Dreaded Hatch"

I can tell you the way that Steve Fredericks outlines in his book is super easy and it went together almost too easy. I am almost scared that I have it all wrong it was so easy. I had already cut the sides and gusset and all that was needed was to line everything up and cut the ribs. I milled up some poplar to 1 inch thick, cut them to length and pocket screwed it all together. Now I need to trim the hurricane hinge, and make sure it actually "hinges". Then take it all apart and glue the ribs in place and put it back together. Also will need to add some braces to the ribs and blocks for license plate and 3rd brake light.

Thanks KC for the encouragement. Things have really fallen into place lately.

Last night spent a few minutes dry fitting the hurricane hinge and make sure that the hatch opens and closes smoothly. I need to trim the bottom a bit but it WORKS !!!! :worship:

ImageUntitled by MIke Burkeen, on Flickr

Now to take it all apart and add glue and put back together, add blocking for license plate and brake light. Skin the inside, epoxy all exposed wood, wiring and outer skin. I still have lots of work to do but at least now it looks like a Teardrop.
