Thanks for taking an interest folks

A bit more acheived today, although last nights boozing made it rather slow :tipsy:

Managed to fix the spring hangers to the frame and sourced a bit of 6mm checkerplate to make some gussets for the front cross member. I did this as I cut the RHS and bent it in to create the draw bar and as such this area needed reinforcing

A couple more pics

Here is the old man getting Miggy wiv it! :dancing

and here is the high tech welding stands. I knew those buckets from Bunnings would come in handy one day :eyebrows2:

more soon!

A little more achieved today

Cross members welded in. Wheels on, jockey wheel on and it looks like a trailer!!!

Image

Just need to finish the back, weld on some lugs to fasten the wooden floor stick on some plate to attach the coupling, find, buy and instal lights and fenders then clean, paint and register!!!! :fb

And then the fun begins!!!! :woohoo:

Got a bit ahead of myself at the local auto shop today

Grant,

Your frame looks great. No turning back now. Time to make sawdust.

Take care,
Tom

Thanks for the kind words Tom and Lil.

This building a teardrop is a right adventure init!!!

Now the trailer is built (or twailer as my ex mother in law calls em!) I have had cause to reflect on the original design and radically revise it. The major issue is fitting it into the garage

As such I have now come down to a more classical TD design

Image

If I am completely honest this is the 7th redesign !! Yikes… but it is the best in terms of aesthetics and functionality, in terms of meeting my needs

I am having some logistical issues also as I sold a lot of my woodworking equipment some time ago and all the cool tools are at my dad’s place and the twailer is at mine. As such I went down there today and appropriated some tools!!! Damn Suzuki for not allowing for table saws to fit in the rear door of a Grand Vitara….that sort of design lacks vision!!!!

Any hoo….whilst I was there I officially lost my sawdust virginity and made a galley insert frame to accommodate a Lido Junior 2 burner stove. I left the frame at my dad’s place as I made a hasty getaway with some tools so I will post a pic soon!

Finally is there are any kiwis reading this …. Ner ner nerner nerrrrrrrrrrrrr!

On a more serious note I hope all those in the US are safe from the vicious
will of Irene.

So what is the record for the number of trips to the hardware store in a day?

Progress was hampered today by:
1. Running out of argon!!!!
2. Running out of grinding discs
3. Not having a 9.5 mm drill bit

So three visits in one day. The upside being the sales assistant asked how the twailer is going!!!!

Progress today was hampered by the above and the following:

Timber was badly warped so I had to screw it to the frame to dowel it

Image

But hey, at least we made sawdust!!!!

I will remove it from the frame in a day or two and finish it off

Hopefully by then I will be able to pick up some ply! The local Bunnings ( Oz version of Home Depot, ie, overpriced corporate hardware outlet that has killed of all the local owner operators and basically just sells shite imported from China to unsuspecting fools!!!) was out of it.

On a brighter note we got the coupling on and the chains

Image
and some flash gear arrived

Image

so all in all not a bad day!

Til next time
