Well Rav,

First thank you for you kind comments.
Truth is it's not done yet. Gone camping in it a few times, but I'm having a difficult time getting the layout of the kitchen in a way that feels good to me. I'm slowly moving along, hoping inspiration will strike fore I get done.

I only have a view pictures of the Tear in the field. Here a a couple pic's to tide you over till I get on a roll again.

Camping on Mt Laguna

For the folks down here in So Cal, turn out Burnt Rancheria Campground is a pretty nice place to camp. On top of Mt Laguna (maybe 8 to 10 miles of I-8 ) few hundred feet away before it drops of into Anzo Borrego Desert State park. Nice space between neighbor with a mixed forest canopy. Got a nice spot without reservation. Even on a weekend it was only about 80 % full.

Wolfgang, your trailer is a beauty, whether it is finished or not. Anyway, from what I saw, you're almost done. I think not being all the way done when you start camping is sometimes wise. It allows you to actually work with what you've got to see what you really need and want in the future.

I was surprised to see that you traveled all the way to the glyphs gathering. Your pictures of that outing were great. Thanks for sharing them. :applause:

...All the best! :D

Do we dare use the word "done"?

Sharon,

Yup it was a long drive. But i had never been to central Nevada, so why not. To me it is some real pretty county. Just miles and miles of open land, barley enough to keep cattle alive. Makes you wonder what to pioneers must have felled with just horses and wagons..... Must have been some really tough folks.

Randy and Cliff, I know I will never be really done. but 99% would be nice.
Last weekend it was really really hot in So Cal, then I got sick, and now in in Milwaukee for work this week. So i will definitely not be working on the tear at night this week. But I hope to get with it again in about a week..........

First of all.........

Wishing you and yours a "Very Merry Christmas"

It's been a while since I've done any real work on the tear.
Time to get back at it and work towards the last 10%.
Last couple of times camping the lights would get turned on by hitting the light switch without knowing it. Here is my fix for that problem.

Next is a picture of the head........... now you see it,

Now you don't.

Three more trim pieces and I think the inside will be pretty much done. Still need to work on the galley some more. Ahhhh, there is always next year.

Randy, It was nice to need you too. Still have the empty bottle of Moose Drool as a reminder of the "glyphs".

Sharon, most of us have some sort of vision of what we hope/want our trailer to look like. Best thing is that sometimes you get to the goal. Now if I can just get the back end tied together.

On a weather note, had more rain again last night and day time temp in the low fifties. Measured the water in a trashcan that was out in the rain. In the last 3 weeks we had over 12 inches of rain. We have had winters here were we got less than that all year long. Guess we need it to make up for the dry years.

How long is your floor?

Postby rxsamar » Mon Mar 21, 2011 8:45 pm

Hi wolfgang,

Went to put my frame on my floor this weekend and I was devastated to find I appeared to be a foot or so short. I took the dimension 117 1/2 inches length for the floor - When I measured the base of the frame today it was near 130 inches. I can't fathom where I went wrong - I don't remember that dimension in the plans. Seems I may pay the price for jumping the gun and doing the floor while I was waiting for the axle to arrive. Guess I should worked on the walls first instead.

Rohan

Ouch..............

This picture shows end to end of the floor.

Image

Both ends of the floor are contoured to match the profile.
This picture shows the same edge with the better view of the profile.

Image

Remember, I made my floor too long. I had to remove about 1/4' to 3/8" on each end. I can't say for sure what length I made it to with a little bit of research.

I send you a PM also

hope this helps and good luck.

PS
I think I know where you found the 117 1/2" number

Wolfgang,

Just read your build about three times. Very good looking great craftsmanship. :applause: I have a question on how you attached your interior and exterior plys to the 3/4" strips. I notice that you used "weights while the glue dried". Did you use only glue and if so what kind. Have you had any warping with the 3/4" studs.
