Magnets could be a possibility, but I'm apprehensive about either not having enough (that it would fly off driving down the highway @ 75) or having too many (and not being able to get them apart)

Got an email from MarineDepot telling me that my latches were shipped today! Probably be delayed because of the holiday, but I'll take some pictures when they get here.

Took a half day at the office today. Worked on the trailer for a little bit. Finally have a shelf to put my glasses, keys, etc., on at night.

Image

Also hacked up a power splitter that you can get at any automotive store. It had (2) 12VDC plugs, AND a USB power plug (5VDC). They are wired up, but I didnt finish the faceplate for them yet. They'll go in a box similar to the one in the picture above, but at the opposite end of the shelf.

horrible picture, but I finished the 12vdc and 5vdc usb power outlets. there was another 12vdc outlet, but it was too much for the box/faceplate so I just cut one off.

Image

It was difficult trying to find a way to secure the outlets to the back of the faceplate so I used Loctite Epoxy Putty:

Image

I had thought about using construction adhesives or other epoxies, but this stuff was moldable and could be used down to 40 degrees and set up in 10 minutes.

Got my new stainless steel draw latches today! The "original" price of $64.99/ea would have been a rip-off, but @ 14.99/ea (with free shipping right now) I am definitely happy!

Image

They are great! It would take a nuclear blast for these things to fail. Can't believe I didnt upgrade sooner!

Image

Also got some blue split-loom flexible plastic conduit at the automotive store.

Image

Might not be a permanent fix, but for $5.99 I think it looks a lot nicer than just having exposed wires. A lot less of the wiring will be exposed once I get my 4" foam mattress.

And here's the second interior 120VAC electric box that I didn't have a picture of before...

My parents gave me a 4" Spa Sensations Foam Mattress for Christmas, and I had to cut 6" off the width to make it 48" wide. I'm gonna try to get up to my storage unit on Friday to put it in the trailer. Can't wait to try it out!

Kerry, you're right... the Scuttlebutt is getting to be more and more like home!

How many clocks does your dad have to reset for daylight savings time?

Zach, I need to get with you and try that mattress out. Since Knox foam closed, I have been looking for the same quality and type of firmnesses that they offered.

You're certainly right Rod! Happy New Year to you too!

Paul, daylight savings is definitely a hectic day for him! He has about 60 that run full time. He repairs and collects them as a hobby so he doesn't mind at all. It keeps him out of trouble during retirement!

Kerry, we can definitely meet up sometime so you can check it out. Its just the 4" foam mattress from Walfart. I believe it has about 2.5"-3" of regular foam, and then about 1"-1.5" of memory foam on top. Directions say to let it out of the box for 2 days before using it, so it can expand to its full thickness. I haven't a chance to test it out, so I really cant say how firm it is, and have no comparison against the Knox Foam.

Zach:

I have a very old mantle clock, it's not fancy, but has been in the family for years. I can't get it to keep running, maybe the next gathering we are both at I could bring it and you can give it to your dad to work on for me. I would gladly pay to get it running again.
