I'm glad you got it figured out and it won't happen again. I sure like the looks of the down low builds, but the extra ground clearance is probably safer.

Yep, I do too. I wanted stainless button head bolt, but I did not order in time and ended up using what could find locally.
I'll probably replace once I get every thing figured out. 8)

Yeah, I was thinking mostly about the look and didn't think through mechanically. :?
I like the low look too but I'm finding out I don't have all the knowledge of building with tight tolerances. At this point I rather be safer. :R

I always hurts when you loos a part of your trailer. I lost part of my wheel cover on my last voyage on my old trailer on my way off to camp, then on my way back a drunk side swiped us knocking of my drivers side mirror and the guard rail did in part of the other side of the trailer. I have sense started a new one. Sorry you hurt yours.

You TV door could be held up by the eye hooks that hold the baby loft up. and be more out out of the way for better viewing.

It hurts, but that's part of designing and building my own trailer. ;)
If I ever build another one, I will know what to do. (I better not tell that to my wife, though... :? )

As for the cabinet door for TV, it should be high enough as long as kids are not jumping around.

It can be done! I built a 5x8 camper that sleeps 5!

How we built a 5x8 camper for a family of 5, using a utility trailer with an incorporated bunk bed for the kids.
From plain trailer to campground!

Sorry about the damage. Glad you could fix it and find a permanent solution. I do like your trailer. Very sleek look and nice ride height! 8)
Hope your maiden voyage is uneventful as far as camper issues go.

Thank you Ed. It's been several weeks since the incident, so I think I healed from that. I got the fenders fixed as well. :D

I hope first camping goes well too. :worship:

Compact family camper Build - Maiden Voyage!!

Postby ryuandwings » Tue Apr 07, 2015 8:42 am

It finally happened! :dancing :P :dancing :P :dancing
We took our trailer for a spin to near by State Park last weekend for 2 nights trip. This was planned ahead as a trial to see if we encounter any problems and also to see how we may use the galley, which is still unfinished.

The camp site is David Crockett State Park in Lawrenceburg, TN which is about 2 hours and 15 minutes from our house. We drive the interstate, back roads and some construction roads that should cover most of our future driving conditions.

Weather was not ideal for camping, at least the first day was not. We had to drive through the thunderstorm on the way to the camp ground. Perhaps that was a good hydro-test, which I failed. I will cover this more on later post.

Here we are leaving our house in the rain. Rain was a lot heavier than what appears on the photo.
Image

Temperature was down to high 30s in the mornings. But we now know we can camp in that weather.

Here is unfinished galley in the dark. We used many household appliances at this time.

Looking up our site from the fire ring area.

Similar view at night.

We are leaving the park. Had a great time!! 8)

Thank you for looking.

Thank you everybody. :D
It was a big relief to find that it can go to camping and came back with everything still attached.

Now I can concentrate "finishing" it.
