I used 1/4" plywood. It's just a shear panel in a frame (top, deck & sides surround the panel).

Jeeeeees, there's a lotta different ways to build these things! (Make sure you take a peek at NoseOil's build thread. He's a lousy goose stepper but builds a sweet teardrop.)

Tony, I like uniforms, I haf always liked uniforms!

I used the 1/4" panel as a backing for the cabinets, in the galley & the foot-board in the cabin as well. I screwed in from both sides of the bulkhead, then screwed in from the outside walls into the side panels, face frames & shelves of the cabinets to tie it all together (pre-drilled drywall screws for the assembly). The cabinets stiffen the 1/4" bulkhead & the side walls of the build are tied together with the cabinets, bulkhead, roof spars & decking. It really can't go anywhere once all of this is glued & screwed together & sets up.

It's probably stronger than it needs to be, but I didn't want to use 1/8" plywood for a bulkhead, as Tony would be upset!

Thinking about your wiring question...
I used 14 or 16 gauge, if I remember correctly, for things like LED lighting and the fantastic fan that don't pull a lot of amps. If you have a 15 amp power outlet (cigarette lighter type), you may need to up your wire size. I used thicker 10 gauge from my battery to my distribution/fuse panel, and then 14 or 16 gauge from there to my lights. I'd use 12 or 14 gauge for a power outlet. If you're connecting an inverter to your battery to produce household AC current, you'll need thicker wire still. Go with what it says in the inverter instruction manual in that case. But in general, your 16 gauge wire should be fine for simple things like lights.

Me and my ego feel much better...

I'll confess to building an upper bulkhead using sandwiched wall construction techniques once. It worked fine. I probably got a bit rambunctious on the amount of internal framing.

Put a good day in today. Put up interior sheathing and started wiring. I'll finish wiring over the next couple of days and galley bulkhead.

Thank you. I have finished the traffic wiring and have started the insulation. I'll post some in the next couple of days.

Tony,

That bulkhead sure looked familiar and then I remembered where I'd seen that before. My teardrop!

When I first looked, I thought, "Hey! How'd he do that?! Then, I realized it was the original hatch. It looks like the old hatch will still fit!
