Woohoo; I'm supposed to be going camping with about 40 people.
They are already there in the Victorian high country

Sounds like it's going to be a bit crowded in the tear this time. Hope there's enough room!

Sadly I'll be in a borrowed tent.
I installed the second fuse box today in the benroy... one more I recon ill be right.
That totals 24 fuses.
Sounds rediculous I know but I'll have the best part of 12 full in the galley with a couple of spares

Just waiting for my mate and his boy who will be tenting beside us..

There will be up to 10 dads and their kids..

It is nice my lad is old enough to do adventures so we will collect tuatutas at low tide.

Hopefully shoot a couple of bunnies late afternoon:

Catch an elephant fish at high tide:

Seems like a good day for a 5 year old

See you tomorrow xx

PS None of those pics are mine I just trawled them off the interwebs

So here goes.. pics to come..
We got to my mates place at 10am, it was his first night camping (and he was taking his 5yr old too)
So off we went and did the 1 1/2 hour drive getting to beautiful Okains Bay approx 1140hr

Image
(Shamelessly stolen off google)

We met the 10 other dads who had been there since thursday

After setting up my TD I taught Ross to pitch his tent.

Ham and cheese toasted sadwiches then off exploring with the boys.

Tuatuas were thin on the ground but we got 10 or so each. As this was not enough for a good feed we put them back.

Next one of the other kids comes up to me with a kahawai

(a bit like this)
Image
and asked me to deal with it..

So back to the TD and get my chef's hat on.
1) Fire up the primus stove (kerosene) and make a cuppa
2) Lit some charcoal in my old BBQ
3) Heated up my DO
4) Made a batch of soda bread and threw it in my DO
5) Removed that and cut the bottom half of it off.. (the top half was yummy)
6) Scored the fish flesh with my knife into 3" diamonds then wrapped the fish in wet newspaper and threw it into the embers for 40 min to steam
7) Marinated my 2 venison back steaks, (each about 3kg) in my secret spice mix (dry rub), cut them in half and left them to sit a while, I then ate the fish with the boys.. yummy
8) Beer
9) Fly RC plane on the beach
10) Beer
11) Slowly cooked 1/2 the venison over charcoal then sliced it up and it melted in our mouths..
12) beer.. (there is a pattern here)
13)threw some pork slices in my DO with 750ml of coke, a can of pineapple pieces and some stout beer (it was not good stout) and threw it in the coals
15) 3 or 4 beers and fast forward 2 hours, pork strips got demolished by the dads (kids were in bed by now)
16) Second half of the venison cooked for the dads, on crackers make from toasted torilla slices and sour cream
17) More beers
18) Bed
19) 0130 ross waking me as his tent had blown down
20 up at 0700 to make pancakes and bacon for breakfast
21) Pack up and home...

Awesome trip..

Hi Frank,
I did not take the Anglia this time, the hill out is very steep so I was worried about
a) the brakes going down the hill (Mum nearly killed us with serious brake fade in a hillman hunter on this hill when I was a kid
b) getting the anglia up the hill

So on Friday night I did a yard camp with my 2 year old daughter

It was 1 deg C outside and with Greta and George (My cat) we were snug all night

I only had one window open as I did not want a cold draft blowing on her head as her 'bunk' is a shelf over my knees.

So friday night I hope to do the first trip away with my kids;
we are going here:
http://www.spencerbeachholidaypark.co.nz/
It is commercial as hell and not my scene, but it is 15min drive from home incase the wheels fall off!
I am keeping it really simple with sausages and bread for dinner and for breakfast bacon and pancakes.
The focus is the kids getting out there doing it. I have 4 sites like this within an hour of our place so it is good practice before we begin to go further afield.

Fri night adventures could become the next big deal in our house as my wife (who loathes camping) works most fri nights..
