today i took my tent seamstress
i have Coleman Coastline 8 tent and my plan is cut it half so i can make sidetent with 4 sleeping place and big living area.
cuting line will go just after doors (right hand if you look images)
on the edges there will go

How does an aluminum shell compare in cost and weight versus a plywood/spar system? I need to save as much weight as possible and the idea of an aluminum shell seems like it would help me. I'd appreciate some further information on it. Thanks!

bended aluminium frame is one that you dont make in home
so is the aluminium welding
to me it costs ~1000.- EUR = 1300 USD (material, bending, welding)
+ aluminium sheet + insulation + interior plywood

weight is with heavy undercarriage frame ~500 kg = 1100lb

Thank you for the reply! Not as lightweight as I had hoped. I'll still keep this build in mind as it is a thing of beauty!
