Covered up the insulation with 1/8 mahogany ply.

The clamp is the beginning of finishing the side wall of the galley. Hard to explain, so I will just show pics of the progress.

Hi Del,
will keep you up to date with pictures.

remember you are the first up the mountain, im only following in your footsteps.

i dropped Andy. G. an e-mail to ask if there was any copywright on his drawings, the reply was no & pointed me towards your build.

thinking of trying to do something like a time-laps series of images from the same angle & fill in with other more detailed images. probably wont work but its worth an attempt.

have aquired some clearance lights which were going to be used on jet-fighters wing-tips. they are ali, a nice teardrop shape & should fit in well.
anyway, its early days but ive costed the ali sheet to be £485 sterling including value added tax. (thats %17.5 the uk government adds to nearley all our retailed items as their little joke!)

Just wondering, have you been keeping tabs on the workshop hours spent on the Jelly-Belly build ?

Heres to the next project my poor wife has to suffer with.

All the best
Dan.

Time? Have not a clue how much time. But where ever I go it draws attention, so I hope you are not shy.

cheers del

A question though, are you going to make the original fenders?

Hi Del, :D

will be fitting the original fenders. Andy emaild a varient which is single curvature & alot easier to fabricate.
may resort to these if im getting too bogged down.
this means a loss of 2 foot potential extra width.

looks like i cant have my cake & eat it too !

best rgds Dan.

Dan I can not wait to see how you build those fenders. When you are done put the extra 2 in a box, and send them across the pond  only kidding.

good luck del

Got the top half of the hatch supports up.
Image
The hatch likes to shift to the left on the hinge and has pulled itself free on one side. I must take the hatch off to reattach the hatch to the hinge.

I added more insulation inside.
Image
I did call several insulation companies to see about spraying insulation in, but in the afternoon none of them wanted to answer their phone, except one that did not work with spray on insulation. :x :x

Still working on tidying up the galley walls, the opposite side no less.

It is raining here, but I took off the hatch any way. The screws holding the hinge to the hatch were failing. The first one was backing itself out, and became bent. The next two pulled through the hinge, and the forth one broke. The last two were doing fine. The problem is the hinge slides from side to side (it likes to go left for some reason I do not know), when it has shifted and you try to close it, it tries to pull off the hinge. :x In typical Merican style I changed to larger headed screws, and added 4 to each side.

Back with more pics. Before I start I had to figure out a way to keep the hatch from sliding back and forth on the hinge, this is what I figured out. Trimmed off a little bit of the smaller hinge. Before.
Image
After.
Image
Here is what I trimmed off.
Image
Now the when the hinge is reinstalled.
Image
Pinched the ends with pliers.
Image
The hatch now opens and closes normally, but am to scared to try and push it to the side.

Tried to hook up one hatch prop, failed miserably.
Image
Image
The hatch suport hits a piece of wood before it can extend fully and move the catch out. :x
Do I trim the offending wood, or add spacers to push the prop away from the wood?

Del,
As the wood the prop is hitting doesn't appear to be structural/critical, trimming a bit off shouldn't hurt. Of course as light as that hatch is, it would be easier to try adding a piece as a spacer to see how it'll work instead of/before doing any cutting.

Hey Dave let me see if I can figure out how to trim that with out too much aggravation, I think you are right that is not structural.

Dave if I should end up in northern Alabama this winter should I wave?

Del,
Cat says if you come through, wave, and don't stop for a visit, she'll throw a rock at ya!

Seriously though, if you do come through this part of the state, you're more than welcome to stop for a visit as well as spend a night or more. Just let me know about when.

Hatch work today was canceled due to wind. I did work on the inside insulation (sorry no pics) and started to put on the clearance lights.
Image
Spent more time figuring out how to install the first one, than I spent actually installing it. Go figure.

Dave tell Cat no rocks please, I will stop if I make it that way. I enjoyed my stay last year, thank you.
