Welcome Rev, and I agree it is shaping up to be a nice trailer, one Sparks and his family can be proud of.

I get double posts frequently when using a crackberry, don't sweat it.

I didn't expect to say it, but I am wondering about a second build. Too many other things however.

In other news, I have a need "campable" by date. Scout Stiff has a Weblos camp trip the weekend of Sept. 26-28.

Ya' remember that full size pattern you sized? Now it gets used again. I taped the pattern to the side to mark the hatch rib outline.

Just how deep can the rib be...

I found one spot where the jigsaw bit too much so I've glued an extra bit on in order to re-fair the curve.

Coming up. The dreaded hatch build. :o

I sweat the hatch build and when I did it, it was like is that it??? Of course I only have the framing done but still that is the "scariest" since you are creating something from nothing in one day.

it should go just fine. i used to build model aircraft wings all the time. the hatch isn't much different, just bigger and not made of balsa.

The template gets screwed onto the blank.

On with the show:

I replaced the smoked router bit and pressed on. I realized the 1/8" masonite didn't have enough thickness for the bearing on the bit to effectively ride against. I decided to use a full rib for the template instead. I didn't like how the first rib turned out because of the cut-us interruptus. I used the second one.

Image

Along the way I've realized the 1x2 cleat at the base of the walls was going to get in the way of the hatch.

Image

So, I turned to the router again. Have I mentioned before how handy this thing is? I needed one of these things years ago.

Image

Fits like a glove.

Image

The ribs clear the shelf perfectly. I'll put a rounded over piece of oak trim on the shelf.

Image

Just for fun, eh. Just sorta sitting in place. I haven't marked them for the top and bottom notches yet.

Image

The side ribs are clamped in place. I finally got to use the package of door shims I've had laying around for years. SEE, there is a reason to hang on to all that "useless junk." The top and bottom spars were measured and cut.

Image

Hey Ronald, eat yer heart our. MY McRib is bigger than yours. Has to be, it's from Texas. They're clamped together to make the top and bottom notch cuts.

I never realized how much sawdust and wood chips I would produce when I started my project. It's amazing. :?

I've been continually sweeping it up and adding it to the compost heap. Gonna grow a plywood tree when it's all said and done.
