Rose Rolls - The unathorized Compass Rose autobiography

...ask your questions in the appropriate forums BUT document your build here...preferably in a single thread...dates for updates, are appreciated....

Actually, CDF is my initials...but we been burnin' up here in NorCal all summer! I took this pic on the way to the Coast along the Trinity River last month.

But back to your build! Watching your progress was a key part in our decision to build rather than buy. You're flying, making it look easy, and will be camping in no time! We did get our deck bolted down, filled & sanded and a profile template cut out today...so watch out!

Fires all summer is SOP. I grew up in Amador County, so know the drill.

Oh man, I'm gonna get a big head outta that news.

When are you going to start a "build" thread and show off your progress?

Amongst everything else, it hit me I needed some kind of handle to open the hatch. I've scratched my head for a while on this one.

I happened to stop at Bass Pro to look for a charger inlet to use for shore power. I didn't find anything exciting on that end, but did find this:

The working stiff is also Scout Stiff. He needed to build some sawhorses to complete one of his badges.

Hello, The details and pictures of your build are very helpful to us as we are planning our first build now.
One question...How did you fasten the floor to the trailer? What type of fasteners did you use?
Thanks for all the information!

Attachment was hugely hi-tech and difficult involving numerous incantations and such...

Er, um...

I used (15) 3/8" carriage bolts, with the head countersunk slightly so the overall floor was flat. The bolts were lined up with existing holes in the frame.

Quality wood, don't ya love it.

A deck cleat hatch handle mentioned above.

Lights. The "deck" light will probably become a galley light mounted to the hatch.

The galley bulkhead is done and in place.

Insulation before the galley skin goes on.

Image

If'n you're wondering about the "extra" blocking at the top corner, it's to allow for some coax bulkhead fittings for ham radio use. The radio here is an Elecraft K2.

Image

I left a lip at the top of the cabin side skin to hold a piece of 1/2" backer rod in place to seal the irregular gap at the top of the bulkhead.

The notch at the lower edge is cut out.

Image

The reason for the notch. This is a power strip for a 19" equipment rack. It has 6 outlets on each side.

Galley side.

Supports for the shelf are test fitted. They will also carry the inboard drawer slides for the stove and ice chest.

Dang! :applause: I am loving that AC power rack! If I didn't already have the holes cut, I would do something like that. Very simple and elegant solution! Nice flag too, I know what it means! :ok:

Thanks.

BTW, my family was at Grandma's this weekend. I got to teach myself to give the gray feline subcutaneous insulin injections. Oh boy.
