A Scottish Tear

Postby 2fry » Fri Sep 25, 2009 10:53 am

I would like to share my teardrop build as a way of thanking everyone who's ideas and tips that i have used.

Without this site the build my might not even have started.

I hope some of my pictures or methods help others.

Here goes.

This is my chosen profile(many hours, days, months of pondering)
Image

Floor construction
Image

Using the ply sheet to keep my metal frame square.
Image

Axles going on.
Image

The completed frame.(The drawbar has still to be trimmed to allow adjustments for the load on the hitch)
Image

The floor and frame bolted and sealed.
Image

The base is level.
Image

Sides Cut and mortised.
Image

Cutting the doors
Image

The start of the dry build
Image

Fitting the rafters
Image

The hatch position.
Image

Milling the doors.
Image

The window detail.
Image

The first coat of protection.
Image

Finally getting it together.
Image

The galley.
Image

Fitting the inner skin.
Image

Forming the rear hatch.
Image

Some wiring and insulation.
Image

The outer skin.
Image

Moving day(From my folks house to mine)
Image

Some weather proofing.
Image

Under floor water tank.
Image

Manual tap.
Image

Cutting the plexiglass.
Image

Windows in (temp.)
Image

Galley hinge detail.
Image

Wings.(thanks Ebay)
Image

Here we go.
Image

One of many clamp combinations.
Image

Cutting and fitting the hatch.
Image

Skinning the hatch.
Image

Fitting the trim to all edges.
Image

The only problem is that due to the weather(no surprise there) i've run out of time to get my tear ready for my trip to the isle of Skye.
But at least it's a start.

Thanks for watching.....

Graeme(aka 2fry)

I'm very impressed with your building technique. And the results. Very well thought out. You are now the proud owner of a very nice looking t/d trailer.... enjoy...

Graeme,

Thanks for sharing the photos, you made it look easy. Also enjoyed seeing the power tools you were using over on your side of the pond, very nice. Now you have started a build thread on the forum, keep us updated as you go. Looks like a teardrop will be perfect for an Isle of Skye holiday.

Great build, great photos, many thanks.

I got a kick seeing the Morris Minors, what looks to be what I think you call a "drop head coupe" and clearly a beautiful "shooting brake," wooden bodied at that, surely restored, where I've seen only metal ones over here. For a while I thought it might be the tow vehicle and fittingly so for a teardrop with such fine woodworking.

Nice work. You've made it look easy! What have I been doing wrong??? (Don't answer that.)

Was that a Freud router I saw there?

Graeme, I was up in Scotland for 2 weeks the end of August, for the Edinburgh Arts Festival, and some more touring right up to the top of Inverness etc. Mostly rainy, but every day was perfect.

God's country that Mate, God's country.

Thats an amazing build you did, and I have to invite you to please come show all your toys and projects in www.retrorides.proboards86.com , the guys there will go mad for it. We have a few Moggies on there , and loads of other good stuff.
Greetings from England.

Rian.

Hoping to get it all done in time.

Is it just my computer or have the photos all gone?
