Great looking frame Dave!....looks like you got plenty of length on the tongue, TV won't get into that one. Doug

Thanks...it's 2 x2 x 1/8 tube and the tongue is 2x3x1/8...so its pretty stout.

Looking very good Dave. Por15 is an awesome product! Double check me by reading the tech data sheets on the stuff, but I don't think it has any UV protection, so you may want to coat the tongue with something that does. It will get chalky after a while of being exposed to the sunlight.

Postby john curtis » Sun Apr 04, 2010 9:12 pm

Thanks for the info Dave.I coudnt find the 1/8 wall when I built my frame,so I had to over build with 2x2x3/16.I hope to find the 1/8 on my next build a 4x8 Kit.

Your right, they make a high build primer called Tie-Coat that the paint shop said would etch into the Por 15, and serve as a base for a color coat. The SlumberMAX already has chipped to the metal in places and started to rust with the rattle can stuff. Hopefully this is going to be a lot tougher paint.

I'm really struggling with colors right now. I need to decide and paint my wheels so I can get some rubber on the trailer.

You shouldn't have trouble with Por15 chipping, it's a form of dark magic how it sticks to metal surfaces.

Seeings how winter is coming, I dragged things out and started some work again. This weekend, I took the frame that was coated with POR 15 and put on two coats of high build self etching primer (POR 15 Tie Coat Primer). That will give it a good base for the color coat.

Here is some of the chipping I am trying to avoid. The SlumberMAX frame only had a rattle can auto primer and color coat. After only two years of regular use, it is rusting where its been chipped by rocks, dings and stuff. Of course, the weather is pretty harsh here....and I don't know if others have had this problem, or if it is just a consequence of the crappy job I did with the rattle cans. Anyway, I am hoping the POR 15 treatment will keep the rock chips from going down to metal.

I was thinking to use some rhino liner spray ( Hard line) , to prevent chipping, so far I haven't had the time to do it, but the spray cans are not all that expensive. Going on rural roads in Colorado tend to lift a ton of pebbles, and my silly spray paint job is starting to suffer....all in one summer.

I am thinking about taking mine down and having it professionally rhino lined before I start the body build. I know it will be used in less than ideal situations.
