1951 Boles Aero Flooring

Postby mezmo » Mon Jun 28, 2010 2:15 am

Hey mvperini,

What a great find! The Boles Aeros aren't as plentiful as
Airsteams or Avions but are in the same league in my view.

I hope you choose to restore it. It is well worthy of doing that.

The original flooring you pictured looks like real linoleum,
especially since it is circa 1951. Real linoleum has a texture/
feel and look that vinyl doesn't and can't simulate. It sort of got
superceded by vinyl here in the US. It is now again available
in the US. [I understand it is only made in Europe now.] Look for
"Marmoleum" which is a brand name for the manufacturer
of the real linoleum that is again available here. It is often listed
as a "green" product since it is made of all "natural" materials not
from petrochemicals. It is a little more high end price-wise usually.

Since you really won't need a large amount of it I hope you decide
to use it in the restoration. It will will be a detail that helps 'make'
the final result of your efforts. It is also naturally antiseptic, so I read.

It looks like it is available several ways - tiles, sheets, snap&click etc.
and various sites have pdf files of info for installation etc.

Here are some links I found:

http://www.marmoleumclickstore.com/
and
http://www.forboflooringna.com/default.aspx?menuId=3
and
http://www.forboflooringna.com/default.aspx?menuId=867

This has more pics:
http://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/Publ ... /index.cfm
Click on "Marmoleum Click" and scroll down to "Indian Summer".
It looks like a close enough match to he pic you posted.

'Hope this helps.

Mike....I agree, Marmoleum is the best for the "vintage" look....finding someone that is willing to cut small portions was an issue for me and it is very expensive, but the look can't be beat and it's incredibly durable. It'll scratch, but it won't show like a tear in vinyl as the color goes completely through. A little sawdust on it and it's like a skating rink....Doug

bath room

Postby mvperini » Wed Jun 29, 2011 8:14 pm

Well folks it is that time again, restoration of my 51 boles aero . we have gone to 3 vintage trailer rallys in the last 3 months and everybody loves our 57 cardinal. but every time we see a vintage trailer with a bathroom the wife gives me that look, sure would be nice to have one of those. a lady friend of mine owns a wreaking yard and had a old ford motor home late 60s i think. any way she said i could have the bathroom for free all i had to do was remove it. it has everything that i need a shower, toliet looks like new and a holding tank. all of this stuff is behind my shop waiting for the install

The unit is a 76 inches tall x28 deep and 38 wide

RE: 51 Boles Aero resumption & New Bath Unit

Postby mezmo » Fri Jul 01, 2011 2:02 pm

Hi mvperini/Mike,

Good to see/hear you're getting back to the Boles.

That bath unit is a great find! And in such great condition too.
How did you happen across it? One of those "Oh, by the way---"
moments" when talking with your friend?

You should be able to integrate that rather easily and still keep
the interior looking "period". I'm sure it'll generate additional
Oohs & Ahs when you show people as they take the tour. You could
mount a mirror and seal it over the window cut out and no one will be the
wiser.

Good luck and have fun as you resume the redo.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo
