1951 Boles/Areo rebuild / Updated 6/29/2011

Postby mvperini » Thu May 27, 2010 2:08 pm

Took a 600 mile roadtrip yesterday and brought home a 1951 Boles Areo 16 ft trailer. The couple i bought it from were using it for camping  , not the cleanest trailer i have ever seen, but there yard and house looked just as bad. After some wheeling and dealing,I paid 300.00 :) Now have to decide which trailer i want to restore first the
1957 Cardinal or this one. The good thing is the trailer is complete and everything works, floor is solid just need to replace some birch front and rear, or clean it up polish it and sell it.

OOOOOOOHHHHH ! ! ! !

That's neat.

I would be happy to give 300 sheets for it.

Clean/sterilise and polish.
Greetings from England.

Rian.

Hoping to get it all done in time.

The reason i got it for 300.00 was when i called him he said the tires were good. But they looked like the original tires and it was last licensed in 1970. we called the tire place in town and got a price of 300.00 dollars so he lowered his price some more. never did buy the new tires just decided to drive home and hope for the best, made it home with no problems, only stopping every 50 miles to check the hubs and tires

1951 boles aero

Postby mvperini » Sun Jun 06, 2010 4:39 pm

started working on the trailer, I knew i had water damage at the rear of the trailer. will have to replace about 3 foot of the floor at the rear of the trailer. the stock instalation turned to mud, i cut part of the floor out and used a garden hose to wash out all the crude at the back of the trailer. this trailer is is going to be easier to replace the interior birch because it is screwed on into the metal cross pieces.

will replace the water tank with a new plastic one
Image
big mess behind the wall
Image
found a nice 1972 calendar that was between the wall and the headboard for the bed, will frame it and hang it up in the trailer when finished with the rebuild.

The neighbor is wondering about the old ugy trailer in the drive way  , so i went to town after work to pick up some 3M super duty rubbing compound and a few rags, to see if i could make the trailer more presentable to the neighbors. i polished for just over an hour I belive the trailer is going to polish out very nice :R
Image I did use a power polisher just used the rags to clean off the residue.

Thanks doug

I found out today that there is a campout in October at the Coast for vintage trailer club. told the wife about it and said would be nice to take the Boles aero trailer after she stopped laughing and said there is no way the trailer could be ready, sounds like a challange to me.

By the way can not wait for IRG, love you new build

Regards Mike

Polishing Boles Aero

Postby mvperini » Sat Jun 12, 2010 9:57 pm

Could be at a car show today but instead decided to polish the trailer, first day of 80 deg weather also, last time we had 80 degs was last sepetember
Image
Called my step-son who needs the money [ not working] to see if he wanted to help
Image
he should up at 10:30 AM and i put him to work
We polished the whole trailer we finished at about 6:30 we have to do some more polishing to make it realing shine but the hard part is done
Image
I think the 49 will pull it with mo problems, has 16 inch wheels on the trailer locking to install 15 or maybe even 14 in to lower the trailer
Image
Now the wife thinks the trailer is cute :)
regards Mike

Thanks doug
The visor was the first thing i put on the car after i bought it. I think visors make the car with out it ,its just another chevy, plus it helps make the car a lot cooler inside plus making the car look a lot cooler

boles aero

Postby mvperini » Sun Jun 27, 2010 9:43 pm

Had an early birthday party today, going to be at IRG on my birthday :R had all the kids and grandkids over, my youngest daughter was looking at the Boles Aero and said it was to small to camp in. So i pulled the teardrop of the garage and put it next to the Boles Aero. Then she said if you could hook up the teardrop to the Boles Aero trailer then she would have a place for the kids and it would not be to bad to take camping
