Well Sat and Sunday were spent drilling spars and pulling wires for trailer lites and installing the headliner (More white pebbel grain FRP ) I then insulating between the spars. Used ice dam tape to seal in the insulation by taping over the spar and taping the Tuff R foil faced polyisocyanurate board in place. I also ran a run of tape along the top of each wall and rounded over the edge to eliminate water intrusion at the top to side joint.

I will be installing the FRP top as soon as the front bulkhead and the taillight panel is installed.

I will be installing a shear wall in the front of the teardrop to remove all trace of wiggle out of the box. I have the door trim cut from scrap here at work and loaded in the truck ready to install around the single door and window.

I know , I know, pictures pictures pictures .........

Got home about 4:30 Tuesday evening and decided to try and get SOMETHING done. So after roughing in a door cut out I cleated a 1x3 to the side walls in the front of the 4x7 and cut and installed a flat bulkhead in the nose. I think I will install a couple shallow shelves in the void later or perhaps an electronics area. It was a hammer tight fit as I slipped the 48 x 40 wall in from the top like a drawer. It was a bit of a fight but it is now glued and screwed in place. It was hot as hell and I was wringing wet so about an hour was it. I was ready for a cold one !

It always amazes me how wiggly and spindly the sides are until these side to side shear walls are added. It is rock solid in the nose now with a bit of a wiggle in the rear. I will be adding a shear panel over the cabinet out of the 7/16 fiberglass faced zip panel there also . I will then cut out openings for the little storage cabinets over our feet.

Unfortunatly all this work and it still looks like this ....

Wed night added the 7/16 cabinet face above near the foot of the sleeper. All trace of wiggle is gone. I will cut in the openings for the storage cabinets later so I simply screwed the 18 x 48 inch sheet into place. I was curious how much a short 18" deep 4 foot wide wall would add in reinforcement. It obviously added a great deal of strength. I will remove it and fit cabinet doors later so I did not glue it into place yet.

Only got 6 hours in Sat. and about 3 1/2 hours in Sunday early .

I still plan on camping in it at our fall gathering 10/14/11.

Cut in 4 cabinet openings and added a front shelf and installed the cabinet doors. Started on the entry door and the cut out is a bit out of square Nothing trim won't hide but I hate it when I find goof ups :x

Bob,

I can't keep up with all of your builds. What number is this one? You've knocked out about 3 or 4 since I started my build.

Take care,
Tom

I've read a lot of the journals here and I have to say that yours are my favorites. You have a real talent for taking next to nothing and turning it into something really wonderful! I think we are similar in that respect (at least I hope so :D ) Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Frank

The thrift is not by design but necessity .

Wife was 2 years unemployed and now part time under employed and under paid so things are real tight. My builds are rather frugal, I wish I had the resources others on here have to add the bells and whistles and eye candy. However , when we are camping we have as much fun as the next guy.

Truthfully I really enjoy the building more than the camping I guess that why a just can't stop with one or two or three :?

THRIFTY

Postby crumbruiser » Thu Aug 11, 2011 3:35 pm

My build is going to be thrifty out of necessity too. I have 1 wife, 2 kids, 2 dogs and 1 income! I will more than likely have more fun in the design and build as well. 8)
We are alike.
