New Teardrop - Silver Shadow

Postby trailtrekerNJ » Fri Jul 09, 2010 6:27 pm

I did not build it, but I can now go camping.
Picked up a 5 x 10 Silver Shadow Highliner at Miller Trailer Sales in Perkasie, PA.
A much better sales process than the past attmept with the Mega-Mini.

Not as dramatic / complicated as others, added tie down brackets and a micro wave to the teardrop.

Very nice trailer - congratulations on your purchase!

Would be curious to know what are some of your favorite local places to camp?

Very nice trailer - enjoy the road ahead!

(But instead of a microwave, you sure a cooler wouldn't be of more importance in that space?)

The Element has been 'retired', as a tow vehicle for the teardrop.
The Element owner's manual states - a total trailer weight must not exceed 1,500lb and the tongue weight is 10% of total trailer weight.
Empty the 5 x 10 Silver Shadow weighs in at 1,080lb, with a tongue weight of 110lb.
Add all the farkles and equipment and I'm at or above the limit.
Sooooo called into service is our JK 4dr Jeep Wrangler.

Due to weight and condensation we opted to carry our coolers in the back of the Jeep.
In the jeep we installed a 'Rampage Rear Interior Sports Rack'.
This divides the rear cargo area into upper & lower storage and the rack tilts upward to allow easy access to the lower storage area / coolers.

P.S. I consider the micro wave as a "farkle"....
Used only to entice the wife to come on some of my adventures.
I do all of my cooking using a "Jet Boil" stove.
Basically I eat cereals and soups when I travel.
To me it is just a matter of re-fueling for the next hike.
Don't get me wrong after a week of such a diet I make a pig of myself at The Outback.
