Building in Montana

Postby wingnut » Sat Jul 10, 2010 11:09 pm

Hi All,

I've been lurking on here for a few months and have been building for a couple. But just got a photo program so I can post some pics of my build. Now all I have to do is figure out how to post pictures on a forum, which will be a first for me.

Welcome to T&TTT.

What part of Montana? It's a big place. :R Other teardroppers in your area would like to know.

I grabbed two pics from your album; hope you don't mind!

Great-looking trailer frame...

How long's that floor? You don't necessarily say so, but I'm assuming you're building a teardrop rather than a 4-wide tiny travel trailer.

Nice job so far!

I'm in northwest Montana, in Kalispell, that's about 32 miles west of Glacier National Park.

The TD deck is 10 foot long & 4 wide. I'm using a set of Kuffle Creek plans as the bases for my build with only minor mods. The frame is 4"X1.5"X3/16" channel iron, so it's heavier than the 2x2 box tube specs in the plans. The axle is also pretty heavy duty. I removed springs to hopefully soften the ride some and of course I had to narrow it up more than a foot.

Flathead Lake is huge. I've got some distant relatives in Whitefish and have worked in the area near the Issac Walton Lodge at the southern end of Glacier. Beautiful country!

Let us know if you ever need even milder-rate leaf springs. I don't have the link handy, but I do know of a supplier for load ratings down to 500 lbs! No sense in having one's rig want to change lanes when hitting bumps.

Again, welcome to the board! I'll be keeping an eye on your build.

Focus,

I was thinking that I might have to go to lighter rate springs, but I thought I'd try just removing a couple of leafs first and see how it rides, then make other changes as needed.

I sealed the underside of the deck before fitting 1.5"urethane insulation to it, which will be fastened after the wiring and any other work needs to be done under the trailer.

It looked good, so here is the second side fitted to the deck and the boss came and checked it out also. She's not ready to give it the GOOD TEARDROP KEEPING SEAL OF APPROVAL just yet.

In this pic the wiring is all done & the walls are insulated.

This bring use up to date. Yesterday I stained the interior and finished the insulation of the roof, so that is where I'm at to date with my TD build.Image
