Postby ME87 » Sun Oct 31, 2010 10:46 pm

Started as a late 50-60's Vintage Chevy Utility Bed and I hope to have it ready to go for a Trip in February

Image
It will be fully enclosed when complete

I plan to have

12 Volt Lighting System
Running Water
Heating system (Either generator and electric blanket or a heat exchanger and burner system)
Bed large enough to sleep two
Full kitchen with portable BBQ and stove and a tap to wash dishes
Storage enough for a week of camping if need be

Thanks for looking

Wow! You've already got it use-able. This should be an interesting watch. Keep up the good work!

Haha, those are just there until I'm done taking the bed on and off. Thanks though.

I don't know how much of this I'll actually model, but the parts I have laser cut need modeled anyways so I'll kinda build and CAD on the fly on this project.

I saw an old telephone truck bed someone was selling and thought of doing the same thing. I'll be watching this one.

A bit more work on the floor and I'll see what I can come up with for mounts for the different items on the tongue (Ice chest, 5 Gallons of Propane, Full size 35" spare, Portable Weber BBQ. Since the axle is so far forward I'm trying to get some of the weight towards the front or I'll be adding some length if it tows bad.

Got the frame primed and bed permanently mounted. Got the first floor panel cut and painted. Next weekend I'll try and get the floor and insulation in along the bed sides. Won't be long and I can start on slide out bed and covering.

They do help, that's for sure.

Hopefully going to make some progress on the heater this week.

Very cool! Wish I had thought of using that kind of frame/bed for a build. I could had one for free or next to it. :( This will be interesting to watch

Didn't get a whole lot of physical work done this weekend, but I did get the holes cut for the recessed LED tail lights and turn signals. Planned out the license plate placement as well as spare tire mount and did a bit more work to get ready to install the interior floor and walls.

License Plate Mount
Going to french it in similar to my truck except it will be in a vertical position on back of the left fender shown here

I've had good success with these for lighting the plate in the past on my truck, so I'll use them again on this build.

I scavenged a spare tire crossmember and pulley off of another build and because there is so much dead spacer under the floor and I have a ton of ground clearance, I should be able to fit a full size spare under the bed perfectly

Holes for tail lights

and I'm going to use the existing gas filler neck holes for a water spigot on one side and compressed air on the other as my truck already has 120 psi on tap, so I just have to run an extension line. Not sure what I may use it for, but you never know.
