King Richard rebuild Update 8/2

Postby OutsideArt » Mon Jan 17, 2011 4:19 pm

Well, I pulled the King Richard home on 1/8/11. Not too much info on it other than it went to auction and didn't sell so it wound up in wrecking yard. I firend of mine wound up with it and gave it to me. It has the number 123 stamped on the frame near the tounge. Still trying to figure out the year of production

Good to know that another piece of history was saved from the junk yard! Have fun rebuilding it. And if you feel the project is to much for you, please give me a call! On second thought, that trailer is to much, and you would have to strip it all the way down to the frame, Maybe replace every stitch of wood! You might not have the extra time to do all that!

Just kidding, give me a call if you need to find it a good home.

Thanks guys,
It might be too much with two little ones, but I've been picking the trailer apart whenever I have an hour or two. I am trying to save everything I can for templates.

Image

Its going to need all of the wood replaced. This side fell apart when I touched it. None of the aliminum siding was sealed on in any way except for the edging along the roof.

Image

The whole front end was sagging and had been repaired numerous times

Image

Why? because the metal frame didn't go under thaose corners. I plan on fixing the frame here so it doesn't happen again.

Image

A pile of parts

Image

The left side was in better shape and should make a good template. The old aluminum and doors are stacked as well.

Image

Just a little more work and it will be down to the frame, then the fun begins.

 :applause: Oh boy! You have done a good job tearing it down. That should help with the rebuilding.

King Richard rebuild update 2/4/11

Postby OutsideArt » Fri Feb 04, 2011 5:57 pm

Everything is torn down. You can really see where the frame needs reinforcement.

and back

Frame needs to go to the blaster and the axle needs a good cleaning and rebuild

Image

I've been sourcing aluminum in the area which is turing out harder that I expected. the edge trim is 7/8x5/8 which is no longer stocked and the sides with the pattern allow for shrinkage so I can't get true 4x8 sheet with the 3" run. In the meantime, i ma cleaning and polishing all the trim and windows.

Seems like you have your work cut out, and looks like you now have a starting point.

Inquiring minds wants to know what kind of treasure lies beneath the cover? The shape looks different than a 55 Chevy. Just being nosey!

Looks like maybe a Ford truck, mid 50's. And by the way, that King Richard is most likely an early 60's. I'm not real sure on when Benroy became King Richard because of sale.
Also you might contact Lil' Bear (Grant) for a full size layout of a Benroy, same teardrop. The main difference was the skin.

Hmm, I think I'd go late 40's early 50's say '47-'52, based on the narrow rounded profile of the hood - if it's a truck.

update

Postby OutsideArt » Thu Apr 07, 2011 4:04 pm

Finally got some work done

The frame has been cleaned and painted. There is a new hitch and chains. I also reinforced the corners where it failed before. The hubs have been rebuilt, and there are new tires with powdercoated rims. I've also done some bodywork smoothing the fenders and they are ready for paint. About half of the original trim peices have been polished out and one window has been rebuilt with new glass and screen. just picked up lumber today.

Here are the front corners

and an extension on back
