Alaska build, Will be a type of back country

Postby mike66442 » Sat Apr 16, 2011 8:49 pm

 Let the madness begin!! Pulled in a trailer today( first one out of the snowbank) Trailer is an old toy hauler, it is 53 wide by 94 long. Started with a tair down, also flipped axle to get a little more ground clearance, and replaced wheel bearings. I think i will leave the deck in tact, and build on top. Well this is my start on bringing my old Sand Rat 2 back My first trailer i built about 20yrs ago....

I call it a back country, its not a true off road. plan to spend about 30% of the time on logging roads, or old fire brake trails. So after lurking around for a few months, and way to many changes in plans. I will use the KISS method. So a little weekender, a little grasshopper, and a little wing & an a prayer

Floor almost in, started some work on one side.
most of the build will out of 2x4, 2x2, 5/8 plywood. Looks like i will over build, but weight not number one issue, i dont wont it to bounce apart.

So true, thats why I called it the madness. Have not finished the first one, and all ready thinking how the next one will be built. Well it must prove we are just a little off in the head, just a little.

Cut door today, and almost finished the ribs. :scratchthinking:
Have not desided if i will have 1 or 2 doors. I have seen some trailers with only one door.

 So much to do, and so little time. Have to hold on the roof, the roof vent i ordered still has not arrived yet.Dont trust the whole i made.Looks to small. Same old snail mail :delivery: . so I finised the front, and started on the galley. also started using wood filler, and and sanding.

Very cool Dad. I was looking at mine yesterday and decide I may need fix the rear hatch. It looks bowed to me. I'll get to it when the '54 is finished this week.
