This is the start.....I picked it up off craigslist for $150 and it has 2x4 I beam construction will know more once i get the body of this camper off it :)
My idea is simple to make a camper that will be 5 foot when in travel mode and 5 fooot 6 inchs in camp mode. this is my sketch of an idea for both as you can see the light brown is the roof that raises the 6 inches.
The camper will be 12' long

answer

Postby Xdcinc » Wed Dec 07, 2011 3:27 am

The garage door is 6'3" tall the trailer frame is 1' from ground so in order to clear the entrance of my garage Im fiquering 5' even gives me some wiggle room. As for why do i want it to be 5'6" in camp mode I am 5'5" tall so I just wanted to make a standy with out the sunken floor. I cant wait to start but wify and I leave to drive from vegas to orlando in 13 days so all i get to do for now is dream

That makes a lot of sense.;)
When I read your first post I thought you were crazy only making it 5'-6".... Too shot for a standy!
(I'm 6'-4", so everything I do is calculated for 6'-7" head height).

Love your floor plan, smart to get the potty away from the bed.

Hi Xdcinc,

Looks like a nice design there. If you can do the windows in the shapes
shown it'll really be singular.

I firmly believe in "build what you want and what you need", but I just
wanted wanted to mention that maybe you could also consider the
effect of the 5ft6in interior height, when raised, on any possible resale.

The point being, one never knows what one'll want/need in the future.
Since you'll be investing $ and a lot of time in building it, maybe doing
a 6ft or 6ft2in interior height when raised, would help in any possible
future sale - the market will be larger [no pun intended], and the time and
material costs won't be very much more than your original plan. You'll
probably never be able to get all your labor costs back but if you could
recover at least the material costs, that would be a big benefit if you have
to discontinue camping, or decide you want something else and will be
doing a second build [a very common occurance here!].

Just wanted to throw that out there.

Have fun planning and building.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

Postby Xdcinc » Fri Dec 09, 2011 1:46 am

My wife calls me a hoarder due to i never sale anything i have ever built LOL. I still have a cabinet i built when i was 10. I would agree that if I ever planned to sale it i should go 6 or so but even when I build my second (yes i know i have not even finished my first  ) I will never sale this one. It took me 10 years and a sheriff to get rid of my first car.

I'll pay you double your money $150 X 2 = $300 for the trailer all you have to do is put it back the way it was when you brought it home..............

Looks like an explosion happened one can do a lot with good help looks like you two work well together.

Keep us updated on the build.
