4x8 Aerodyne

Postby Blotto Bros » Thu Jan 05, 2012 6:12 pm

I found this trailer on craigslist and just couldn't get it out of my head. 2006 Homesteader Aerodyne 4x8 cargo trailer. It looked like they had teardrop trailer in mind when they manufactured these.

So it followed me home and work started on 1/1/12

Removed all inside plywood and insulated. I was shocked to find that the studs in the walls are wood. This does make this build much easier though as I won't need to weld. Used 3/4" Styrofoam insulation and put the panels back up.

I ordered window, door and drip rail from Vintage Technology and they showed up in 2 days...WOW!!

Installed window on drivers side.

My trailer is white BTW..the silver one is a stock pic as I didn't want to drag mine out when it was snowing.

My goal is to have it campable by Shivaree on 1/13/12 and finished by May. Door will go in this Saturday then on to galley and electrical.

I need input on how deep to make the galley counter. Currently I am leaning towards 16" and it will be covered in a continuous sheet of aluminum that will cover the counter and bend up 18" to form the back splash as well. I like this idea as it will prevent any liquids I spill from seeping into the woodwork or sleeping compartment.

 That is a nice shape on a cargo look forward to seeing it at the Shivaree
I think 16" is what my counter is and it's plenty of room, do all my cooking and such on a table anyway. Are you talking 18" up in the back from the counter or 16" counter plus 2" up. Just my opinion but 18" would be to high

Well 18"up BUT the upper cabinets will reduce that to around 14". I have the piece of aluminum leftover and I have come up with a way to "Quilt" the backsplash...test piece came out great.

You will all laugh at me but one of the tools I used was an old pizza cutter...alone time in the garage is always an adventure around my place.

On someones build thread, they made their own diamond design on their backsplash and it looked very nice! [bold is not yelling :D ] I remember it because I liked it very well. Good luck with your build. It looks you have a pretty good foundation. 8)

I agree those look like they were meant to be a TD though it looks pretty narrow? or is that just the way the pic came out?

Shakedown cruise this weekend to Shiveree!! When I say shake I really mean shiver..high of 28 and down to 12 last night. The insulation worked great as i was able to use my ceramic heater to reach 106 interior. I did turn it WAY down before bed and still slept comfortably.

I am going to pull out the galley and re design it...need MORE cabinets in the interior and a pass thru. All in all it was a great time!

NOTE...the pota-poty on the picnic table was not mine....and I believe it's owner moved it before use!!
