96: Stainless Steel Micro-Airstream behind motorcycle

Postby ST1100 » Sun Apr 06, 2014 4:41 pm

After cutting one more willow tree yesterday in my garden, today was trailerday.

First I completed the doorframe:

And sealed it with a self adhesive rubber band.

Then I fitted the door skin and drilled all the holes into it.

Next was deburring and drilling thru into the frame of the door and fitting the edges again.

Last step was to degrease all and seal the frame with sikaflex.
I attached the skin with clecos in every second hole and riveted between them.
Then I removed the clecos and finished riveting.

    Very well done, Tom.
I'm curious to learn the weight at this point before adding your camping equipment?

It certainly looks nice, my only question is if you have vents for air flow? I don't recall seeing any.

This week I added a handle and a lock to the door.

And today I completed the front with the spare wheel, to bring five more kg weight onto the tongue.

And - I hooked it to my bike and made a one hour test ride over narrow mountain streets, high speed autobahn with strong winds and passing trucks.

The trailer follows very fine, I reduced trailer tire pressure a bit to reduce the clonks when I pass a bridge.

Tested up to 130 km/h and felt only a small swinging when reducing speed from 130 !
Perfect between 80 and 100 km/h.

Trailer weight is now 128 kg (282 lb) and five more kg adding the spare wheel.

Back at home I separated the sleeping box from the base camp to install the final connections between both parts in the evening.

Weight of the cabin is exact 50 kg (110 lb) !

Okay - last weekend before starting my journey to Spain.

Bought a sheet of blue self adhesive Oracover and nine self adhesive letters and cut a stainless plate.

After an evening I got this:

Next was to mount the poles to balance the trailer if not hooked to the bike.

Bad weather outside on friday, but inside my garage no problem.

On Saturday I did nothing at the trailer, because I had a full day motorcycle safety driver training at best weather from 9 to 5 !!!
