My 5x8 TD build

Postby AeroDude » Sun Jan 05, 2014 2:21 am

Here's yet another Teardrop build coming together in Berkeley, California. I'm going to build it in my un-heated garage, so the speed of how things will be coming together will be pretty much dependent on the outside temperature. I cut my side walls in September but didn't get around doing anything else until last week. This week my windows, Fantastic Fan and some other parts arrived and I used my time between Christmas and New Years' to cut some of the other wooden parts and build a frame that goes around the ceiling fan. Today I built my floor and test fit my side walls for the first time. As I have ordered a trailer that's not going to be here for a little while, I'm going to put the Teardrop's floor on caster "shopping cart" wheels so I can move it around and in and out of my garage. Will keep y'all posted!

My 5x8 TD build getting somewhere!

Postby AeroDude » Mon Jan 27, 2014 12:44 am

Now we're getting somewhere. Picked up my trailer this weekend and spent quite some effort on the door frames, including 'artwork' in the form of the Tear's silhouette.

Thank you Jamie! Likewise. Just noticed that I haven't been posting pictures of my build for a while. Treasure Island was great. Hope to see you sometime soon at another meet. :D

Time for a few pics! Took the tear out to Treasure Island this weekend. It isn't quite ready yet, just perfect for show 'n tell.

I like the swoop. Is it purely a design element or are there aerodynamics involved?

And the design around the door is great.

Glad to see you revive and update your build thread, John.

The people at Treasure Island really enjoyed seeing your in-process build. It was a good idea to bring it for show and tell. We're going to be having a bit more good weather, now; so, I hope to see more progress pictures soon!

Reached another milestone today: the plywood skin is on, and the galley hatch fits. Ready to go find some good quality aluminum. If you happen to know a supplier for 60" wide aluminum in the Bay Area, please let me know.
