5x10 for 4

Postby be_a_jayhawk » Sun Jan 26, 2014 4:30 pm

I thought it was time to start an official build thread now that I'm finishing the trailer frame. My tear so far is planned as a hybrid tear and benroy and also going to be part foamie. I am building this for me and my three boys who will be 9 7 and 4 this summer when I hope to be at a campable stage. Step one was finding the trailer. Craigslist had a bunch of people who were not pleasant to deal with but eventually I scored this for 165 bucks.

Nice looking trailer and a great price. I'm a big fan of big wheels/tires. Are those 15"?

I couldn't see all of your sketch. What are the dimensions of the trailer frame and what size are you building?

They are 15s. Bigger tires was a big reason why I went used. They are not in the best shape but should be fine until I am ready to take long hauls in it. The frame is a 5x10. So 5x10 it will be with a 4 ft height. I thought about going 5 high to add space in the bunks but I haven't made up my mind.

Test fitting the floor tonight. Tomorrow I will hopefully get the final cuts and start gluing before the Super Bowl.

Subframe and floor all cut! Now time to chop some foam and let loose with some liquid nail!

I was not real pleased with the 1/4 underlayment so I flipped it and put the more durable 7/16 osb on the bottom. I plan to water seal the bottom with the window flashing rolls. If anyone thinks that this is a mistake please let me know before it is too late.Image

Also there are some tight spots in the floor framework. Considering it is below freezing and low humidity do I need to leave some room for some slight expansion?

Not much progress lately, but stained the bunk bed frame and ready to sand and poly.
