Newbie with a dream... Benroy!

Postby Shoprat » Wed Jun 04, 2014 6:53 am

Hey all new to the site and thought I would share my trailer. Thanks to this great site I became enthralled with the idea of building a tiny tear... Like I needed another project!! Anyway over the last few months I have been slowly progressing with a little help from the generic benroy plans I put my own spin on it. I have never really been skilled at woodworking and it's evident in this build but I'm learning a ton along the way. I already took it on its inaugural trip to the coast and spent a week camping in it so I have a bunch of improvements that I will do as well as complete the trailer. Anyway here are some progression pics.

Love your original rusty old trailer.....could you salvage those roof panels? Those compound curves would tricky to build from scratch, so few home builders could use that shape. But you've got a flying start! I would really like to see that roof incorporated into it.

The sheetmetal on the old horse trailer went to scrap which paid for my first trip to the lumber store.

Does anybody seal the aluminum siding with clear coat? Or do you leave it plain

Looking great - you have made amazing progress. Any plans for a window in the door at all?

I've sealed aluminum with clear coat. I did, however, do a sort of artistic scuff on the aluminum prior to the spray however. I also put a dose of pearlescent gold in the clear so that it appears to be straight clear, but when you see it an an angle it flashes gold. I'd check with an automotive paint store about shooting it without any "tooth" on the aluminum. I'm not sure what Airstream does on their clear coats. Doug

Yes it's definitely not completed. I have two windows for it just no trim rings so I am trying to figure out how to mount them.

Postby noseoil » Thu Jun 19, 2014 7:33 am

Just curious if you had a chance to weigh it yet. Nice build!
