Well, I think you are realizing absolutely top quality insanely beautiful piece of art, especially after learning what you had to do to get to this point. Simply excellent, excellent curves and finishes, man.

Thank you! We literally camped out in it while it sat in my brother's shop. Lol. But Hey, it was still fun. One of these days...

I was thinking about something as I was reading all of your kind posts. I remember back when I started this project, people used to comment and question why I was doing something a certain way or hey, here's maybe a better idea or such-and-such. I noticed now, no one offers any tips! But I'm sure glad that you all just keep cheering me on! I guess maybe your confidence in me is a lot higher these days lol! Anyway, just wanted to say thank you to all of you who follow our posts and our build. We sure appreciate you all. One of the great things about this forum is the good people here that we've met. You mean more to us than you realize...

The feeling is mutual. When you show that you, too, have done the research and absorbed the good advice of those camper masters that have come before us, plus the obvious skills and work experience that you exhibit, there is not much reason to give advice. You are a master and it did not take long for that to become obvious.

Build on. (I say this last bit to encourage me as much as you.)

9-28-17 Update:

More progress on the Astroliner. I'm doing what I can and my brother continues to be good about helping me continue on. Summer is over and Fall is drawing neigh...but still no camping for the Astroliner. I sleep in the camper on the weekends occasionally when I'm down for some "Camper Time." We continue to work at it piece by piece and I know we're closer to the goal. The other morning I woke up and this is what I saw...

It's good to have helpers interested in the build. LOL
Anyway, I have been doing a little electrical work. Wiring up the switches and gauges so the board will be ready to install once the cabinets are ready

151300
151302

Also, we've been working on the area behind the dinette. Building in storage compartments. There will be a storage area that can be accessed from above as well as an area that can be accessed from below on the exterior of the coach.

151288

Next, we take everything apart and get everything prepped for the lacquer finish. I did try something new on the Galley Cabinet. After I layed down a couple coats of lacquer, I sanded it and sprayed it with 3 coats of Imron Elite Clear. I've always wanted to try it on wood and I'll tell ya... It blows me away. I sanded it and buffed it out as well. It's a flawless piano finish and I'm not bragging just stating the facts. I guess you can use automotive finishes on wood if it's done right!

Check out the Chatoyance in this piece!

151283

151287

Then we put everything back together with the new finish. I use glue and pin nails to put everything in place, trying to put the pin nails where trim will go.

151298

Some other things I've been working on is installing the LED backlighting. I installed it on the backside of the upper shelf and on the lower underside of the cabinet.

151282

151279

And here's a fun pic of how to bend 1/2" Birch. (I was told it couldn't be done!)

151281

That's about it for now. Looking forward to some Camper Time this weekend and working on the Dinette area.

Unconditional love.

Your work continues to amaze. You are building an heirloom piece, and a work of art that could easily become a cultural icon for this generation of builders.

Keep on.

Michael,

I was browsing like usual on here for ideas. Couldn't sleep Wednesday night and found this build. Read the complete build through the 72nd page until Thursday morning around 7:45

WOW, what a find.... You, Carrie and brother Matt have done a great job.. Your craftsmanship and attention to detail is above amazing. A beautiful piece of work. :applause:

Your push through attitude with everything you've had thrown at you shows in this build.... Here's hoping you and your family the very best...
Stay safe, David
