OP827 wrote:Hi Michael, I am also often thinking of you, how you've been doing. I started a contract work in Ontario, it's been over three months now. I did not work on the trailer since it is 3.5 hour flight away from me now, but not for very long. I found a guy via uship dot com who will move it for me on a 40ft platform trailer along with my pathfinder. So I hope to get back working on it sometime in September. I got a new place, a house, it is smaller, only one car garage, but I hope to find a shop or build something in my back yard. So will be posting. Moving my family and stuff from Edmonton Alberta to Saugeen Shores Ontario in September. Since all of large paneling work is now done, I might get away with one car garage to work mostly inside now, or I just pull it outside. I have a small workshop space in the basement where I might cut and glue smaller items and stuff to finish interior. Good to see you out there my friend! I do not think we are too far from each other now, may be a day drive max?
I'm happy you are doing well and things are good for your family! I'm sure that's a welcome relief. I am now going through a stressful time, not just because of the cancer, but I have now lose my job because of it. Difficult to say the least. I checked your location on google, and you are an easy 6 hour drive away. It looks like camping together with our builds are now very possible! Great to hear! Keep me posted on your new happenings!

I've been working on an electrical panel for the Astroliner as a way to keep the gauges and switches all in one place. Carrie and I have been working on a layout and finally decided on one that has a vintage feel. Oh, and KC, I kept thinking about flaking it too, but Carrie really loves the birch so I guess that's what it will be. The gauges are, from the top, a Dual Marine AM/FM Mechless Bluetooth receiver. Below left, a gauge that reads battery charge and voltage, an old school NOS Quartz Analog clock on the right and finally, an array of switches. The letters are cut vinyl that are buried under many coats of Imron Elite clear. The Rocketship is something Carrie came up with. She wrote the program and my friend cut it with a water jet. Little by little I just keep chipping away at her...

Nice man i agree with carrie on the birch.
Gotta love waterjet dont you...ive used it plenty on my build and in general with much more to come.
I hoped to get more done on mine this week i took off work but ive been under the landcrusier all week.
Replaced every stearing and suspension componant ...its a job for a getting old fella on axle stands in the driveway!

Nothing ever seems to go as planned, but some more progress has been made on the Astroliner! We've been working on the galley cabinet and wow, what a challenge! The problems all started when we couldn't find bendable birch plywood. I finally did find a place online, but at the last minute we realized the grain was gong the wrong direction. We definitely cannot have that. I messed around for a long time trying to come up with something, and I did not want to go with veneer because of the horror stories I've heard of with the glue problems. So I found a friend that had a large sander. It's almost like a planer but it has a sanding drum inside. We ran a 4 by 8 sheet of plywood through it about 5000 times! OK that's an exaggeration, but it did take forever. But we finally got it thin enough to make the bend. Once we got it installed onto the cabinet and glued and clamped, we came back later and epoxied the whole thing on the inside to stiffen it up and give it strength. Here are some pictures, let me know what you think...

Now that it is dry fit, I can pull it out and get it lacquered. As soon as I'm rested up again, I'll be looking forward to doing that!

Carrie and I also had our first overnighter in the trailer. It was pretty fun! Just can't wait to get it on the road! Until next time... keep on building!

It is not a camper, it is a work of art (and, obviously, a labor of love).
