Now that the paint work is finished on the countertop, with many coats of clear laid down, it's time for the epoxy bar top to protect everything. Although I've used many types of epoxy over the years, mostly for laminating carbon fiber, I've never done a pour-on flood coat on a piece this size. Anyone else have this experience? Let me know if you have any pointers I'm open to suggestions!

Michael,

It's been a couple of decades ago, so I'm sure epoxies have advanced, but the biggest issue I had with the bar top epoxy was trying to eliminate air bubbles while mixing. The epoxy I used was quite thick and was a "one-shot" coating that may have contributed to the air bubble issue.

I can't say from experience, but based upon what I've read about wood strip kayak construction, I would imagine that you could build up 2-3 light epoxy coats (or more), let it cure, wet sand to flatten, and then apply one last "shine" coat.

Take care,
Tom

Thanks for the input! I watched a video where they used a plumbers torch and rapidly waved it over the surface to eliminate bubbles. Hopefully I'll figure that out!
