That looks incredibly good. Congratulations on a job well done. If you ever have time, full canvas or even paper mache on the inside will certainly make it stronger.

No panic needed.

If you want to get artistic, you can make those fastener bumps look like the rivets on "the real Airstream".

Thanks Fred!

Yes! Drawing in panel lines and rivet heads was being discussed this morning.

Panic? We are leaving on vacation in 3 days. I can bring it if it's done. The list of things left to do is dwindling. Uncertainty is being replaced by confidence.

I got the bed frames bolted down & the door mounted.
Ikea bed raising blocks were easy to screw through and feel plenty strong enough to contain the potential momentum in a mattress.

A mattress on the floor has always worked for me in a crunch. Hey, my TD will have a "mattress" on the floor not in a crunch !!

As long as the Slipstream keeps the rain off and the bugs & wind out, it should be "good enough" for your first run. I doubt I will have my hearts desire completed on mine when my deadline arrives but I am also hoping for "good enough". Have you taken it out for a spin to make sure pieces don't fly off at highway speeds ? That is my major test before I consider it ready for camping.

I still need to reinstall the door handle before I take it on a test spin. Monday morning I will put on the door handle, take it to the scales, and then get the registration taken care of. I plan to tow it to work Monday night and Tuesday night, to get used to how it feels and make sure it doesn't implode on the highway.

So my plan from the beginning was to put the airstream logo on the back, but have it say "slipstream". Lately I've been leaning toward making it a "ghost restoration". Have the logo say "airstream" and add a model name like "midget" or "cub". Then yesterday my neighbor proposed "diystream" which sounded good but looks awkward. Anyone have strong feelings one way or the other? I'd like to paint the logo tomorrow morning so it's ready for the maiden voyage.

Stick with the given name, "Slipstream" in the airstream style.

Got temporary plates and drove it to the scale today.

Drum roll please...

1160 lbs.

Still need to add plywood to the bed frames, put in mattress, and load with gear. I'm guessing 1500 loaded.

Whatever logo you put on, that looks fabulous and wins kudo's for innovation and execution. An impressive job. Wow on the weight !

I would go with SlipStream too but have no clue what the "Slip" part is all about - maybe I missed it someplace.

Looking good mate I bet your proud as punch.
I'd have to agree with KC and go with the slipstream, should be able to fit it into the logo but still give it that unique flavour

a slipstream is the area of fluid (air) behind a moving object that tends to be moving along with the object. So the named "Slipstream" trailer will be cheating the wind of the TV by riding closely behind it.
