Mini Mate Wanna Be

Postby Sarge 51 » Mon Jan 04, 2016 9:30 am

I am building a tent trailer to tow behind My H_D Road King. Copying the Mini Mate but will be a little smaller. I have pics in the newbie section but cannot seen to get them over here for some odd reason.
The frame is 2x4 1/8 wall aluminuim tubing. The main body and floor will be 1/8 aluminuim plate and the fenders are .060.

I AM using Timbren axle less hubs which gives a little more flexibility with ground clearance. Sorry about all the extra posts

Build is still on schedule. Not much to show picture wise as most of the work cannot be seen. Things like radius corners welding the body on which is done from the inside. Good news is I found a boat canvas supplier that will make the tent portion for me at a fair price. I also discovered I can bent the aluminum bows with a conduit bender which saves having to source that out. I hope to have it at the canvas shop within the next two weeks.

That's it for now

I have made some progress. Top is made and in place as well as the bows for the canvas. It will be going to the canvas shop later this week to have all the canvas installed. Once I get it back from there I will have some minor tweaking then will have to wait for better weather to give it a trial tow with my Harley. I want to tow it around a little before I paint it just in case I have to make some changes. I will post some more pics when I get it back from the canvas shop.

Finally it is going to the canvas shop. I got the bows mounted and the door working. I should have it back from the canvas shop within 2 weeks or less. I am thinking about using an air mattress instead of foam cushions but I will have to see how easy I can inflate and deflate one.

Canvas is done and the guy did an awesome job. If anyone close to South East Wisconsin ever needs canvas work the place to go is KENDOR MARINE AND CANVAS FRANLIN WI.

Good people to work with and prices are inline.

So next is a road test as soon as weather permits. Then finish the body work and then paint..
