In another thread it was discussed how the generic benroy plans show cutting the rear hatch area down 3/8". Several saying thats to much. So yes, I was disturbed.
Until I realized that it allowed me to cap the raw edge with a piece of birch to hide all of the plys.making it cleaner.
Black drip caps it is.

Nothing like burning up a router pattern cutting hatch spars so you can buy a new one.

They don't last forever. If it is an aluminum cased unit you might be able to put new bearings in it and freshen up the commutator, but if it is a plastic case and the bearings get toasted they usually wipe out the bearing seats turning them into scrap.

Did it just start making bad noises or did you "let the smoke out of it"?

I smoked it.
Older craftsman 1 3/4 hp. Good router but it was having issues. Collet was not always tightening, etc.
I used to have a Dewalt plunge router but was not impressed with it so sold it.

Hatch framed, glued, screwed, resting in place to dry.
Finally.....
Tomorrow before yoga starts will be cross framing it.
Remove from hole, add screws to outer spars then abb a 1/4" birch to each outer spar for a clean finish, making them 1" thick.
Inside skin 1/8", outer is 2 layers 1/8" and 6 oz glass.
Need to finalize gas struts for any needed inside blocking, have the t-bar latch system to set up.

A good weeken. Hatch skinned in and out, wired, insulated, layer of glass on the outside.

In regards to the hurricane hinge, what size, spacing of screws do you like?
Just screws in the top or also some in the sides?
1/2" extra each end?

They are tiff files which to my knowledge, where you can download software to view them. But then again I could be wrong. I cannot open they either.

That is interesting. I have been taking the pictures with Iphone, mail them to myself to reduce size and they end up a tiff from a jpeg. So now I have to open in snapseed, save them and they turn into a jpeg.....
