Looking nice. That's some very interesting grain on that piece of plywood.

That is the bendy plywood that has all of the grain going in the same direction. I used it for my ceiling as well. I used the mix on my ceiling and I liked the way it came out with showing the grain.

I made my tongue box into two sections. The top will house all of my electronics and the bottom I can store a generator, A/C, or other bigger items.

Back to work on the tongue box today. It's turning out to take longer than I thought it would lol. I added some additional spars for support. Then I framed up the top section. I thought it would give it a cleaner look plus it gives me some space to hide extra wiring in case I ever need to do any maintenance.

Thanks Snow Lizard. Just trying to give back to this forum. So much information here that really helped me out as well. I didn't realize there were so many different ways to build a teardrop until I found this place. Good luck on yours!

I am making the hatch for the tongue box the same way as the galley hatch (Steve Frederick's method). So this is good practice when it comes time for the galley hatch.

I cut my 1/8" spacer and 1/2" off set for the seal

This is the 1/8" thickness and 1/2" thickness offset pieces
Image

The two pieces laid on top of each other
Image

Cutting the piece out that will eventually end up being the template for the 3/4" piece the seal will attach to (Note the 1/2" offset between the two pieces)
Image

A few examples of how the seal will lay in the hatch

Example of how the seal attaches to the 3/4" piece and opens with the lid

Gluing the 1/8" and 1/2" piece to the tongue box side wall

Working on the tongue box hatch/lid. Got the gusset cut, spars cut and screwed in/lined up. Next up is lining the interior with the bendy plywood

Every time I see your tongue box, I keep thinking, "Bench".

I posted a Youtube video of my ceiling and spars install. I ran into a problem on the bottom spar that meets with the floor of the teardrop. In the video at the 13:01 mark I explain the solution I came up with. Perhaps I should have planned out the last spar better?

So I was curious has anyone ran into this problem and what did they do to remedy the situation? I'm still at the stage in the build where I can make adjustments if needed.

Thanks

I wouldn't want to try to tackle this challenge from my armchair. You're the one with the cleats on the turf.

(You'll figure it out.)

And by the way, what are you going to slip in the trailer hitch socket? I must have missed that.

I didn't want to mount my solar panels to the teardrop. I thought I would use the hitch to have a detachable pole I could mount the panels on. That way I could rotate them if needed.

or

I might use it for a mount if I decide to get a climate right.

I'll see how it works out after I get the teardrop built and camped in it a few times. Figured it was easy enough to put them on while building the trailer. If I don't use them no worries.

i've seen receivers welded to traier corners for mounting side crank tongue jacks for leveling

we didn't always have level parking sites in CG's
