I am pretty sure I camped next to you at Wilson lake last year for the Mountain bike race. I was in the 100 series land cruiser. You have a beautiful trailer and I told my wife about it when I got home. Great job!
As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin' man,
I have chalked up many a mile.
Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks,
And I've learned much from both of their styles.

Thanks, I'm sure that was me. I worked for the bike shop sponsoring the event that year.

Update: over winter I noticed that the corners of the stock fenders were cracking out. Also, even though I had removed leaves from the springs, they were still a little stiff. I bought some springs rated under a 1000 lbs and some curved aluminum fenders. I have been out a couple times this season and found the upgrades to be worth it. Next winter will probably be sanding the finish and applying a couple more coats of varnish. I have quite a few dings and scratches that need to be covered and protected. I show this little camper no mercy.

Good move on the fenders, Friz. Me and others I've met have all had sandblasted fenders to deal with. I think your diamond plate is the best solution.
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

More function over fashion. My flip flops live on the fenders while I sleep. The diamond plate keeps them from sliding off.

I am going to try some of these around the camper for convenience and security.

These were a bust. In testing, only 2 of the 5 worked as intended. The other 3 cycled on and off continuously. Also no apparent waterproofing. I returned them.

Love this project, so well done! I know you've commented on some aluminum trailer threads and it looks like this trailer is holding up just fine!

Do you do any regular maintenance/bolt checks and do you have to do much adjustment ever? I have a similar powered vehicle (Subaru Crosstrek) and have been looking at building an ultralight trailer but have no welding/fab skills so the bolt together aluminum trailers are particularly interesting.

Thanks for all the great documentation and images!

The trailer is fine as long as you keep the weight down. The only must do is packing the bearings with quality grease and properly adjusting the axle nut as you would for any tapered bearing. I jack up either side on occasion and check the play in the hub by moving the wheel laterally and checking for end play. You want just a little to allow for expansion from the heat from friction. I also touch the hubs when I stop for gas to check for heat. These hubs have always run cool.
After living with this camper, I can not imagine doing it any different. We added plastic boats to rig this year. Great addition! Its sitting in the garage, locked and loaded for next spring. Can't wait!

I'm always impressed with your rig....

An Aside, I've been changing the CVT fluid In my outback every 25000.
Mine gets brown and the coolant temperature raises by 10deg in that time.
Changing the fluid reduces coolant temp for several thousand miles before
it starts to creep up.
