I can't speak for CLC addressing hole like this but one technique is :
1) Drill an oversized hole, perhaps 1/8" larger.
2) Fill hole completely with epoxy
3) When the epoxy has completely cured, redrill the hole to the hole size needed. This should leave about 1/16" epoxy ring inside, protecting the wood inside the pin.
All of this is done before mounting, so CLC may have recommended something different.
