Do you think construction adhesive would be better then old school contact cement? Or vinyl tile adhesive?

I'm no glue engineer, so I'm not sure, but that'd be my next try after contact cement. I used both contact cement and construction adhesive in my build and the construction adhesive seemed to hold much better. I'd probably test it out on some scraps before going straight into it though. The adhesive that came on the vinyl planks could be giving way itself since it's probably not designed for an upright application and maybe it's not the contact cement that's failing, rather the original adhesive releasing from the contact cement. So another thought might be to rough up the back of the planks and then try the contact cement again once some of the original adhesive is gone.

There was a few places where the tiles factory adhesive did come off, but overall, the factory adhesive stayed intact.

I may just say screw it, and go for the liquid nails and be done with it.

The adhesive for vinyl flooring or for outdoor carpet sticks to anything. Do some tests with vinyl floor adhesive.

I tried the DAP Weldwood Contact Cement. So far, so good. Fingers crossed.

5 hours in and the contact cement seems to be doing the trick.

Few days into the contact cement, all holding up perfect so far! Very happy.

Did some wiring, and FINALLY got the forward, right side exterior sheet on. Sucks doing this stuff alone, but you adapt and overcome...

Coming along nicely! Solo building- clamps of various styles will be your friend.

Just about all lighting installed and tested. It will all be removed before paint.

Also, hitched it up to the Jeep to see how she looks and sits. I think a little more drop down on the hitch should make her a bit more level. Found the trailer light wires are a tad short. So, bought another harness to make a new pigtail.

Ordered a bunch more little bits and pieces, should all be in in the next couple weeks. 12v power supply/charger, corner leveling jacks, set of four, LED bulbs, low amp fuses etc.

Our first tiny trailer build.

Postby KingAirNeal » Sun Jan 15, 2017 8:45 pm

Money is holding me back. I still have to order doors, stargazer window, roof ventfan, and enough West 105 to coat it. Not to mention the primer and paint! And diamond plat and fenders ugh... lmao

I am shooting for a April 1st ish completion date.

How about you?

I have already committed to a trip end of May. The only thing I have left to buy is varnish, battery and a few switches and outlets.

Sweet. We are hoping for a shake down cruise to Yosemite in mid April, and the big trip to Yellowstone end of May.

Good luck!
