Our Lil Midget standy

Postby Johnysteam » Fri Jan 06, 2017 1:35 am

Hello there
I sold my lil widget camper that i had on a build journal on this excellent website. I could have sold it 30 times over. I will mention this because i was always worried that noone would ever want it because it was home built.

Anyway now I am building a midget. Thanks for the ideas and plans mike and team. I will upload photos asap.
Cheers

Last build i did i used a thin sandwich construction and found it hard to keep the curved sections flat ( and ultimitely verticle) as the short pieces of wood required would move about until the glue was set.So i tried laminated frames

The decision was to do a midget with enough width for an adult to lay down. We needed 1 double and 1 single berth. We also needed a small kitchen. We were on a very tight budget. A lot of things had to come from second hand shops. I welded up the trailer frame with a 100 dollar arc welder which was amazinly good!

I added a foot well to the floor and there is approx 5 foot 11 inches to stand in.

Is the curved frame multiple layers of sawn wood or ply, glued up? I'm impressed. Good way to build a very light frame.

Hi there
Its laminated 2x 1/8. It was quite a long way of doing the frame. I wouldnt do it again. But its straight! and flat.

Its a typical arrangement of the dining table lowering into a double bed. Works well :)
