First time builder, Modified/larger teardrop-eqse

Postby Aviatorbrew » Fri Aug 11, 2017 3:49 pm

I have always wanted a teardrop but I never liked the size of them, so I came up with a design that I feel will be functionable for my needs

I wanted to be able to stand up, have a taller door than the normal teardrop hatch and have a enrty area that didnt involve crawling over the bed, those were my main issues

my trailer is 64" wide and 12 ft long, galley in the back, full size mattrese, 13 gallon fresh water, sink, stove, ecotemp WH, LED lighting, solar charge, 110v shore power to use when availiable and a few other things

I already had an old travel trailer frame, so I didnt have to do much in that area, just some trimming and welding angle around the perimeter

ripped 2 x 4s for the walls, 1/4" project panel board interior, 1 1/2" thick foam, the same 1/4" on the outside, I am planning on getting metal roofing metal sheets, before the manufacture rolles it into the ribbed roof panels, there is a local place here that does that, the colors are backed on also, I just order the material in flat sheets

I had a bunch of reclaimed redwood, I cut it and planned it down, its full of knots, nail holes and defects but it really looks cool! the rustic look, everything is just clear coated, no staining

I will start posting picts,

Thanks, its been alot of fun!
this was an existing travel trailer frame, I just had to do a little cutting and weld a 2 x 2 angle around the perimeter. its good and solid

sealed 3/4 OSB for the sub floor, propane and waterline mounted under the deck

I welded 2 x 2 x 6" angle to the perimeter frame, in each corner, this allows a good positive wall attachment in addition to the other attachments along the perimeter of the angle

laminated 2 x 4 for the front end post, biscuit jointed for strength

first wall framing, the trailer is taller in the front, then it slopes down towards the back

sidewalls are up, I sheated the walls and clearcoated them in the shop, flat on the floor, then took them out and stood them up

the 1/4" project panel from lowes has a really neat grain pattern, it worked well for the interior wall surface, I glued it and stapled it with a 1/4" crown stapler I will make seam caps from the reclaimed redwood

I connected the walls with pre fabbed roof sections, it made it really nice not having to try to staple ceiling sheeting overhead

the trailer is now enclosed, I had to put the regular mattress in the trailer before I could finish the interior sheeting
