This past weekend, I trimmed out around the bottom of the camper, with pvc trim. This stuff is great for trimming. Cuts like wood, sands like wood, drills like wood, but won’t rot like wood. Ran a nice bead of caulk around the top edge. Water should run down the trailer and off this moulding. Makes a nice drip edge. Didn’t want to spend $100+ on a tongue box, plus I have plenty of 5mm underlayment left. So, Sunday, I began building the box. For the interior framework, I cut 1x2’s in half, to make 3/4 square. I wanted to keep weight to a minimum, but still support a battery and some gear. I think I achieved that. All that’s left is make a lid, but right now, it doesn’t even weigh 6lbs. The condensation from the AC is going to drip right onto the tongue box. Are you going to install a drain so it doesn't cause problems?

You’re the second person to ask me that. I m pretty sure it won’t be an issue. I’m going to canvas and paint just like the camper. The tongue box will also have a seal under the lid. My thinking is, it’s going to get wet from rain and dew anyway, so hopefully it won’t matter.

Water is very powerful given enough time. You will have a drip landing in exactly the same spot every time you run the AC. Is it going to "drill" a hole in the lid? Of course not. It is just something to consider.

Duly noted. It may be something I need to address. Thanks for the advise. It’s my first camper build, so I’m by no means an expert at this stuff.

I would use a piece of plastic or aluminum to create a drip channel either on the tongue box or something that diverts the draining water straight to the ground.

Or just sit a small bucket on the tongue box to catch the condensate.

I’ve started framing the storage compartments and installing electrical components. ImageImage

Or just ignore it. The area of concern-the box cover-is such an easy place to access and monitor. Paint will protect if from the rain. If you see some moisture problems in the wood it will be years from now and it is easy to address in that location if the need should ever warrant it. I wouldn't over engineer it now for something that likely will never be an issue.
