Tomahawk Teardrop Build

Postby jswain13 » Sat Sep 15, 2018 3:54 am

Here are a few pics of the trailer I am building. It is a 5 x 8 slant v nose trailer. Somewhat of a cross between a tear drop and an Australian style off road camper.

Well you sure are well under way. Is it like a 7/8th's standee or something? Doesn't look quite tall enough to stand upright, yet much taller than a conventional teardrop. Looks like some serious electrical you've got going on there too. What are you powering up with it all? I take it the wheels are just to roll in and out under the garage door.

As you can tell you've got me interested. It's a nice looking camper for sure. Keep up the good work.

Hey Mr Lahey
Yes the small tires are just for getting it to fit in the garage. The overall height of the box was originally going to 5 feet tall but then I lowered it a couple inches out of concern for it fitting in garage with solar panels, roof rack and vent. Overall I think I will end up with about an inch of clearance once its done (fingers crossed lol). As far as electrical i wont be powering up too much (roof top vent, lights, water pump). I just want to be able to go out for long periods of time and not worry about running the batteries down and being without power. The components in the battery box are 2 225 amp hour 6 volt batteries, xantrax 2000 watt inverter and an intellipower converter. I also have the battery shut off switch and 2 250 amp fuses in the battery compartment as well. It was a tight fit but everything ended up nice. I checked out your build, I like the shape you are going with. Good luck on your build.

A few more pics of progress last couple weeks.
Lighting installed above the sink.

Cabinet face installed where air conditioner was going to be. Had to rethink air conditioner layout. Ended up putting it on side of camper. It will have to be installed once at camp but most of the time camping I wont need it so it can stay in the garage and free up space and weight.

New AC location. Much happier with this set up.

I also worked on the exterior. Re did the lower cabinet face and ran wiring for rest of the 12 volt system. Next week will be finishing the wiring and working on roof.
