Nice job Tony, really liked the last video. Almost ready for sea trials now! How old is Steph's pup now? Looks like it was exhausting just watching you work out there.

I ordered 3500# springs for my Timbren to replace the 2000# ones. No one I talked to at Timbren or eTrailer said the part number was for one spring. So today one spring shows up, I even paid extra for 3 day shipping so I can get them on for a short weekend trip. Not the second one won't be here thing next Monday. :x

Arrgh..... as if anyone would need one. :frightened:

The mattress showed up today. I'll probably stuff it in there later this week after I've touched up all the little gorilla tracks I left with poly. Let it blow itself up and outgas. It's 5" of foam with a 3" memory topper.

Working on the Propex heater install.

One of the headscratchers is how to seal the underside. In the picture below the heater is sitting bottom-side up. The black pipe is the air intake and the flex pipe is the exhaust.

Image

Those two pipes will be connected with pipe clamps and nestle in two 2" holes in the floor. The heater sits about 3/8" off the floor so that makes for a lotta room for water, dust, and mud to come into the galley.

The aluminum flashing is my fix. It'll be screwed under the floor and sealed with high-temp silicone and a couple of sheet metal screws.

:frightened:

My Espar has a high temperature silicone gasket that seals the plate on the bottom of the unit to the floor.

Did they forget to include all the parts with your heater?

Nope. Propex doesn't make such a plate.

I think they were originally designed for the metal floor of a Westfalia camper and thus they wouldn't need the plate. They are much different than the diesel cab heaters.

I wonder if you could make a gasket out of a silicone cookie sheet mat?

That's not a bad idea. It'd probably help to put that under this flashing.

Thanks,

Silicone cookie sheet is a good idea for an insulation blanket. Just make sure there's an air gap between the bottom of the heater & the silicone material, so there won't be much heat transfer. It should make a good solution for the insulation blanket.

Curious how much propane the heater uses in #/hr & how big the bottle needs to be to make it run for a while. Should be nice & roasty toasty on a cold winter night. I know it needs to run on a very low setting in a small space like that, but how low will it go? A pilot light would probably be enough heat in a teardrop!

It burns 1/3 pound per hour of usage. Not much. No pilot, it's electronic ignition.

I’ve got to run two propane lines. The Partner stove uses a 27 PSI regulator --which my propane friend had a hard time believing-- and the Propex needs a standard (1/2 PSI?) regulator.

Here it is. The big fat mattress all sucked down and ready to burst forth.

Image

5" of medium poly-foam with a 3" memory topper*. With 8" under me and that kind of recall, I wonder if it'll remember my dreams?

We were not stupid enough to unroll it in the spare bedroom and allow it to take over the room. Been there. It went inside through that door and we unwrapped it inside.

Easy-peasy. Otherwise, it woulda been a bear.

Heat. I have a heated teardrop.

Thanks to the Propex. It works well.

I brought my friend in for this phase --he's been a propane installer for thirty years. We used automotive steel-braided rubber hose for the Partner stove since it's somewhat high-pressure (at 26 PSI) and regular rubber propane line for the heater.

It's clean. No extra elbows and fittings. :frightened:

Did you put a Silicone cookie sheet or anything else under the flashing for the heater?

Nope. It's not needed. Both the intake and exhaust pipe are centered in 2" holes per Propex.

I ran it for fifteen minutes this afternoon while checking everything with an infrared thermometer and its fine. I need to do the same with the base of the Partner stove. Tomorrow.

She wants to go camping. Badly.

I go through the registration inspection Wednesday which is really just a "here's the check for all the stuff I didn't pay Idaho sales tax on."

I might have to take a pillow and the iPad out there later night after it's cooled off. Fire up the heater and watch some Netflix.
