Another Offroad Teardrop

I've been working on this for a while, but am just now catching up to posting about the build process. Building a 5x8 rugged teardrop to improve foul-weather camping for my wife and son. Here's the progress so far

Building the frame out of 2x2 1/8" thick steel

Getting closer

On her own weight!

Got fenders framed
Image

Frame done with a couple coats of primer
Image

Couple coats of paint
Image

Got the floor on
Image

Walls up, everything is 3/4" baltic birch. 5'x10' sheets
Image

Galley coming together! Bulkheads were fit together with dado joints. What a pain it was fitting the walls down between the fenders.
Image

Started on the roof spars which are 1x2s glued together
Image

Some interior cabinets
Image

Ran the electrical for the running and clearance lights through the frame
Image

Starting the insulation and roof underlayment

That's it for now! I've been working on it since September 2018, shooting for completion by the end of Summer 2019.

Very nice. What are you planning for the final exterior coating? PMF, Fiberglass/epoxy, Raptor liner?

Thanks for sharing

What are you planning for the hitch?
Holy cow, Rose is a teenager now! Done? Surely you jest. A teardrop is never "done".

I have 4 sheets of 5'x10' aluminum that I'm going to finish it with. It's 5052, .040" thickness. Also planning to use "the mix" on the entire thing before skinning with aluminum.

I'll be using a max coupler on an extendable tongue that can extend/retract about 36"
