Building Birdie

Postby Aurevoir » Sun May 10, 2020 11:21 am

Hi this is my first build and I'm modeling it off of the droplet trailer except with a flat back ( framing the curves on the galley terrifies me :frightened: ). It's my quarantine project and I'll be done hopefully by the end of May to bring it back to college this summer. I've already completed the trailer prep, the subfloor (including waterproofing), and I just laminated the skin of my walls unto the skeleton. I'm painting the sides today but I just thought I'd share my progress here before I did anymore. I am on Pinterest as Syd Sinclair and on insta as @birdiethecamper if anyone wants to keep up there too :).

Welcome. :D
You are doing a good job.

I'd like to comment:
That's a large door for just 2 hinges.

I found it easier to get in when the door
is closer to the middle of the mattress.
Your door may be wide enough to allow that.

Painted today! does anyone know if I can use surfboard resin over my walls before a marine varnish? its UV stabilized, waterproof, and nonyellowing.

Pictures didn't come through but are asking about putting resin over paint before varnishing?

In that case, there would be no benefit and the epoxy may not stick to the paint well.

You're pictures disappeared.

I suspect "surfboard resin" is polyester resin with a marketing twist. And it is likely to have acetone in it which, of course, eats oil-based paint. You might Google up the Material Data Safety Sheet for it and see what's in it... or better yet, do a test.
