Standy Fixerup

Postby steve cowan » Sat Oct 24, 2020 5:59 pm

Recently bought an older camper that previous owner resealed the windows and repainted. The interior is totally gutted. The plan is to add a kitchen and a couple of beds.
I stripped out the remaining wiring and started gluing/screwing the wall joints. These camper walls are just shabbily stapled together.Walls are much more stable now.
Spent a few days roughing in new wiring for interior lights and outlets.Running all new wiring for exterior lights/trailer brakes.

That looks like the little Shasta my dad had when I was a boy.
His was white with the orange strip and wings, about 15 ft long.

It's a Shasta Starflyte 17' so about 15' body. Can't find much on the internet about them.Only got a bill of sale with trailer and had to fill out a form and have police run
a check.Found it hadn't been tagged in 20 years! Luckily they signed off on it and got a tag for $15.

Most of the wiring is roughed in.

Front of the camper had some sag causing siding to bend.Jacked the front corners up and added a 1x6 across front floor and tied to the sides to act as a beam to carry the load.Noticably better.

Had a hole to cover where original gas water heater was located.Going to use a small electric water heater so needed to cover the hole.Cut a panel and mounted
electric and water hookups.

Oooh, yeah. Going that route can be a bit of a crap shoot. Glad it worked out favorably for you. Nice work so far. Fun to have a wide open "box" like that where you can organize it however you wish.
